After not winning tickets and being quite gutted about it, I actually did get to go in the end!
On Wednesday evening, I noticed how many people had posted sad please-I-need-a-ticket messages on the FM4 website...so, yes, I did the same & lo and behold, by Thursday morning I'd received an e-mail from a very nice woman who wanted to give two of her (all in all six!) tickets to me. So apparently, there are still some good people left out there - who would've thought! She couldn't believe how grateful I was, it was pretty sweet.
I was somewhat surprised to hear only one of the new songs. But I suppose there'll be plenty of time for those on the proper tour :)
It was an exceptional evening, by all means. Playing the songs in chronological order was a great idea and worked really well; mighty cool to get to hear a set this way!
Loved the audience and the collective gasps of rapture that went through the theatre after the announcement of certain songs. Such a pleasant atmosphere. I don't think I've ever walked out after a gig and seen a huge smile on each and every face I looked at.
I agree with what I've heard so many people say, this concert was a real gift. So, thanks Andy & Fran.
Oh, and let's vote by a show of hands: who would be interested in hearing a Scottish rap version of 'Side' now?
