Witnness Main, Sunday 10pm -11.30pm
>> Travis to be truthful to them where exactly what they were brought to Witnness to be, the sing along band of the festival, and they performed that duty diligently. It had reached the end of the Witnness festival for the first but hopefully not the last time as the sun fell behind the hills, the Glasgow rock titans stepped out on stage to a expectant crowd. This was to be the pinnacle of the 2 day festival. Fran and Co immediately got stuck into U16 girls and fest rock fave All I Want to Do (Is Rock), a link to their humble beginnings. Then comes the classics from 'The Man Who' album nearly all hits Driftwood, Writing to reach you, Turn and the classic and festival favourite Why does it always rain on me?, Luckily the heavens did not open and the Travis curse did not happen to the normally rain soaked isles of Ireland. The whole crowd and I mean the whole crowd was grooving and singing along to all the Travis classics, 40,000 people standing in the middle of a racecourse in the middle of nowhere all singing, a joy to behold indeed. As Travis stepped off at the interval, the fun really began especially in the crowd, the human pyramids and crowd surfing took on a new vigour, the man on top of the sound stage, more power to ya, you kept the crowd entertained during the interval. There was extra entertainment for the crowd as the mystical balloons appeared above the Main stage. Then the titans re-entered the arena as the fella on top of the sound stage is coaxed down and someone invades the stage, Fran invades the fella to sing with him, and he was not bad, during the now familiar Travis festival special Baby One More Time.
Thus it was the end as Fran beat into a marvellous rendition of Happy, but the crowd including myself were not happy to be leaving the Festival that was Witnness. As we followed the huge balloon of light to the exit and to the bus it was the end of one of the best concerts in this country. Let's hope the Witnness concept lives on!
