One week later, and still I can barely put into words what it meant to me to see them live, at last. I’ll give it a try though. Let me begin by saying that Travis should have played longer and I’m not being biased. They have a career that spans decades and seven studio albums filled with songs the fans long to hear. We waited for six years, some of us even longer because we couldn’t be there in 2007, and it all ended in the blink of an eye, or an hour to be more accurate. It was the happiest hour of my life, don’t get me wrong, but we all deserved better. The band deserved a stage of their own and the fans deserved to see them enjoy their performance without anyone rushing them to give way to some other “performer” who has just started out.
It was great to finally experience first hand what I’ve been reading and hearing about Travis all this time. Even before they landed in Argentina they were taking good care of us (there were some problems with the organization and the tickets we purchased to the festival), they were extremely kind when we met them at the hotel and during the show, what can I say, they gave it all on stage. Where You Stand, Driftwood and Turn brought tears to my eyes (which could have easily been mistaken with sweat, it was hot as hell in that venue!) and it was pretty special to witness fans from other artists giving into “that good feeling.” I was so overwhelmed that I wasn’t singing along, I was actually screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs. I will never forget Fran and Dougie smiling almost constantly nor when we sang Happy Birthday to Dougie and he said that his wish had already come true, much less Fran’s honest promise to be back soon. I know it’s a promise most people make, but I choose to believe him.
Andy reassured us before they left the hotel (so glad they made it on time for the show in Edinburgh!) that it would not be too long before the next time and that things would be different then. Call me a fool, but I trust a Scotman’s word.
Thanks a million for being a band that keeps on making me proud.
