It's a couch potato evening tonight, first Obama (6.30 pm our time) followed by the opening ceremony of the European Figure Skating Championships in Helsinki. I know someone who's preforming in that ceremony, so there's something to look for, otherwise I'm not too worried about it.

Yaaaaaaaaaaay! It's official! :)

What a historic, happy day! I had tears in my eyes as President Obama took the Oath and then spoke. He's a truly inspirational man. I hope he can make a difference and that change is coming.

I watched it, too.
And while I'm beyoooond happy that Bush-days are over, I just HOPE the new government can live up to at least part of the expectations... yes, I'm being a sceptical German here, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed!!!!!!!

His speech was good. He said some things that some people probably didn't want to hear. He knows the task ahead of him and I think he tried to prepare the nation.

Instant prosperity is not going to happen and people should not go overboard in their optimism. We will have to sacrifice. That's something Americans aren't accustomed to doing. Our grandparents pulled themselves out of the Great Depression. We will be doing much the same, though the work will be significantly different. Right now, we don't even know what that work will be.

I believe that's part of the helplessness that we feel now. There's a problem and we don't know how to fix it. Our grandparents (or great-grandparents for some of you) got involved with rubber drives and scrap metal drives and volunteered and worked in the WPA. They felt like they were sacrificing for a reason and working for a solution. All we're doing now is losing our jobs and our money in the stock market and not knowing what to do. There's a leak we don't know how to repair.

We need strong leadership now, and I hope and pray that we have it and that he'll have the wisdom to start fixing the holes. Also, give the people a way to feel like we can help, instead of sitting on the sidelines watching our employment and our investments slipping away, powerless to do anything to stop it.
