I am having to delve right into the depths of my memory for this so please bear with me. Seven bloody years ago- I can hardly remember yesterday!
It was sheer fluke that I was even there. I have been going to T-in the Park since way back at Strathclyde Park and saw bands like Oasis and the mighty Paul Weller rock. I was a major Oasis fan at the time.
I did not have a blinding Travis flash I'm afraid and to be honest I remember they were a tad catchy but that's about it. I saw them only on account of their name which was my rule of thumb of band picking when I couldn't think of who to see.
I was a little pissed off that weekend as I liked Strathclyde Park better. I love Balado now but as I didn't have a car then it was too far away and a bit too country for my liking.
I remember more what happened after T-in the park. That autumn I had a little spare student grant cash and passed HMV on Argyle St. I saw a poster with 6 or 9, think it was 9 albums on it at 2 for 20 quid. I bought Travis and the Stereophonics Word Gets Around on account of the fact I liked the front covers which were both white with pretty colours(what a muso!!!)and I had heard of them both. Loved a thousand trees at the time.
It took about a week before I listened properly and man I was hooked Funny Thing and More Than Us replaced Wonderwall and Happy and AIWDIR replaced Supersonic as my fav sad and rocking tracks- a song for every occasion.
Despite my crappy way of picking I was so glad I did and although alcohol blots my first real travis gig I do remember where I was when I got my first travis album. I then bought the singles as they came out and the rest they say is history.
