Do big companies still give presents out to employee's kids? I remember getting a present from my dads work until i was about 13.

Last year at our Christmas party I won a gift certificate for a dinner theatre in Niagara Falls. I still havent used it. The best was people bardering to trade what they won. "I'll give you my John Mellencamp tickets for your Raptors tickets and this gift certificate for the spa!"

For some reason, everyone really wanted the John Mellencamp tickets.

shush you! There is this city, it is called Niagara Falls.

Actually, you should go. It's a company called O Canada Eh?

and it all Canadian randomness...hockey, mounties, Anne of Green gables tossed into one show. And they serve POUTINE, and Alberta beef, umm BC salmon, Quebec pea soup, PEI potatoes. Other things they can pass off as being Canadian...

It will be your lesson in Canadian 'culture.'

http://www.ohcanadaeh.com/niagarafallsohcanadaeh/dinner-show-information/oceshow.htm

It looks ridiculous and stupid but ive been told it is actually funny.

...oh and i pretty much hate the office i work in. so i can't even escape for one measly hour!!

We're living a parallel existence!

I have some fond memories of riotous office parties at Christmas. It's all a bit forced until the alcohol takes hold. Then it is Fun. With a big F!

(mmmm...blushes and runs)

I've never been to any of the Christmas parties at any of my jobs. I just don't like the idea of going out w/ my co-workers and getting drunk. Work ppl are STRICTLY work ppl.

With that said, tomorrow I am going to my husband's corporate party. In the States, his company doesn't do Christmas parties cuz they don't want to discriminate against other religions (or something like that). But it appears that the British really like to hang out w/ their co-workers and this is just any other weekend except the company pays for dinner (as far as the ppl at my husband's company is concerned). It should prove very interesting. Word is that it is Caribbean themed and there will be a steel drum band and gambling. I am somewhat looking forward to it.

apperently the concept of a "holiday" party never crossed their minds to make it appeal to everyone?

Really, you've never socialized with any co-workers? Not that I go out with any current co-workers as they are all significantly older than I am, but i certainly socialize with them at christmas parties and other receptions and things. And some of my closest friends are people i have worked with in the past.

We had our work do a couple of weeks ago and actually had it on a Saturday night which is strange....just so no-one had to come into work Sat with hangover. It was all very civilised....Dinner then drinks in Hotel lobby. Oh and there was Blues music (some old dude yoodeling) and then crazy dancefloor in other room but people kept grabbing me and my bosses butts so we were like feck off and left them too it! lol

Previous Christmas Parties have been an absolute BLAST!!! But then again I used to go out with my work mates alllllll the time (try every friday after work). That was when I worked in the main library. Oh yes we had gallons and gallons of red bull and vodka, table dancing, pole dancing on one occasion, and proper dancing and partying....oh those were the days :) Then it calmed down a bit.....and now I am VERY sensible :)

I'm telling ya Librarians are dark horses!!!!!!!

Some are a bit x-rate and embarrassing, but lets just say I have some happy memories!

I was never big into socialising with work mates, apart from the one annual thing. It seems like a lot of barriers are up 364 days a year!!! lol :)

I think it has more to do w/ not spending money than anything else...

Well, in my last, and longest job, the ppl I worked with I hardly liked working with, let alone socialize with. I don't know, the idea of seeing my bosses getting drunk and gettin' freaky on the dance floor does not appeal me. Plus, we had to pay to go to the party, and I wasn't about to do that. There were a couple ppl I really liked and we did stuff outside of work, but they were also the type of ppl who didn't go to the Christmas parties either.

yes, i can see the oddily in seeing bosses get drunk and dancing. Luckily ive never had a christmas party like that. Its usually just dinner. This year i think its just drinks and hors devours. And im not even drinking as i will be driving home after. sure this will be worth my time.
Im just going to hang out with the box office girls. They have good gossip

I really don't mind partying with my co-workers. Obviously some of them are more fun to hang out with than others, but generally I find that office parties strengthen the working relationship. If you know someone, also outside work, it's sometimes gives a better atmosphere at work. At least that's my experience.

We had ours on Monday, I had been out being wasted for the past 3 nights before then but still I totally outdrank everyone at the pub, then we went for dinner and I outdrank and underate them there... Had a right old laugh, then I decided I wanted to go out clubbing but nobody else wanted to go so I went on my own. I got rejected from one club for being too drunk, then went on to another club. I don't remember much being in there - only being on the floor at some point, and then chucking up loads and blocking up one of the sinks in the toilets.

I dunno how I got home, but when I did I bumped into my dad and didnt have a fucking clue who he was. I had to ask him!
