1. ... Glasgow?
I had a look on the list on Wikipedia, but I guess there are more?
I already know:
Ae Fond Kiss
Wilbur wants to kill himself
Late Night Shopping
Skagerrak
Dear Frankie
and
2. ...Dublin? (I think the only Dublin-based movie I know is "Inside I'm Dancing"... oh, and I've read about "Once" but never watched it)
(the reason I'm asking: I'm looking for a topic for my dissertation - and my professor said she'd support a film-based analysis of a city's image etc etc. London seemed kind of too difficult [too much stuff!] and tons of people here have written about Edinburgh/Trainspotting and Sheffield/working-class-movies... I need something "new" ;) )

I'll have a look at all of them and see whether I can somehow find sth they have in common and write my diss. about them :)
(what a great excuse to watch some movies ;)!)
I think The Commitments was on TV here a few weeks ago, but I couldn't endure the German dubbing :'(

seriously? hm...
it was in cinemas when I was working in Spain... and they had (involuntarily) the funniest movie poster ever:
instead of "how many times do you find the love of your life - ONCE" - it read:
"Cuántas veces encuentras el amor de tu vida? - ONCE".
Well, in Spanish, "once" means "eleven" ;D |

A Sense of Freedom (the Jimmy Boyle story)
Just a Boys Game
Just Another Saturday
The Elephant's Graveyard
are all writen by a guy called Peter McDougal and are about growing up in 60's Glasgow and the Gangs that ruled the mean streets at the time.
Small Faces is also all about gangs
Most of these are available on Youtube.

Dear Frankie is SOOO good. And it does set out a kind of image of the city, but I think they made it reflect the character...who is a little deaf boy, and the city seems very quiet and subdue. |
