I hate that is is freezing (aka like 40ish) in the morning so I bundle up for the bus stop and by the time I come out of my first class I'm sweating buckets.

You just had to rub it in, didn't you. It's sad when 30 degree temps aren't so bad (compared to the subzero temps we had recently). The talk of 40s next week is too good to be true. oh, how the little things make me so happy. |

In Detroit, they send vans around to the places the street people usually hang around and take them to warming shelters. The thing is, sometimes people refuse, then they freeze to death.
My husband and I have had this discussion about homelessness. There must be an issue I don't understand. If someone were truly homeless, no relations to take them in, no friends, why would they stay in a cold climate? You have no job and nothing to take with you, start walking south. What have they got to lose? Sure it would take a long time, but they just walk around the city picking up cans and begging for money anyway. Being homeless a cold climate just doesn't make sense to me. |

Yeah, thats what Torontos is doing. But your right, sometimes they do refuse--I guess they're trying to reject the whole gov't system for some reason. It would certainly suck, though, being out there for the last couple nights. and, for us at least, I dont imagine they can get across the border to get to that nice warm climate without a place of residence. plus I dont think the US wants all Canadas Hobos..;)
