I didn't get to see much I was only on the yacht, ate and slept there but it is a very beautiful town, I'm guessing deeply religous by the amount of churches up on the hills, the architecture amazing all the viaducts and tunnels, The harbour is also very nice, I'm guessing it's extremely ancient?? also when flying in I got to see the Alps, Wow!!, I am quite taken with it and would love to go back and spend some time there.

although I have heard there are some extremely poor areas, and the soccer fans can also be a bit "frisky", Was La Haine made in Marseille? I also guess that it was the home of the greatest player of recent years that of Zinedine Zidane. I understand there is also a big African/Muslim influence, a lot of Algerians settled there?

Of course this is only guess work, I'd love to know more about it, it was a very beautiul place, plus it was 13 and 16 degrees and sunny Thursday and Friday, while in Dublin it was around 7 and pissing rain.

You're right about Algerian people and Zinédine Zidane!

I don't live in Marseille but have some friends there!

Anyway, hope you enjoy our country! :D

I quite like his outside face, it makes me chuckle.

But so do people drowning in canals.

No La Haine wasn't made in Marseille but some scenes of The Transporter, I don't know if you have seen the films produced by Luc Besson :Taxi. Also The french connection and of course a part of the end of Love Actually when Colin Firth went to the restaurant to find the girl he loves.
You're right for the algerian, and there's also a full african area. The architecture is really ancient and it's normal because Marseille is the first town bild in France by Greeks 2600 years ago and called Massalia. Yes it's an interesting town if you like architecture and history. http://www.testadaz.com/blog/images/admintdz/2007-07/marseille_vieux_port_et_bonne_mere_222.jpg
This is The Harbour and Notre Dame de La Garde at the top of the hill (the keeper of the town even if you're not a believer)

Yeah, sunglasses might be a better idea next time, although it was quite early so the sun wasn't properly up.

Yeah, we're wearing sunglassees all year round over here, you can't drive without them as the sun is lower in the sky and still bright. Pleased you enjoyed the place. Have yo tried Pastis?
