The old woman dies in the end? Really??

Apparently for the last 11 years, I have misinterpreted the ending to the movie Titanic.

We were watching the end last night and I wondered aloud if Gloria Stuart were still alive. Don said he didn't know, but her character would be dead in about 2 minutes.

Wha, wha what??? No, she doesn't die in the movie. I've seen it several times and I don't remember her dying! He insisted that she dies.

So, she goes to the back of the boat and does the most annoying thing she could ever do by dropping the diamond into the ocean. She goes back to her room and the scary singers start singing as they pan over pictures of all the things she did after being rescued.

Now, I always thought she was ASLEEP and DREAMING of meeting Jack. Like the song says, "Every night in my dreams...blah blah blah."

But Don says she DIED in her sleep because everyone applauding her meeting with Jack on the boat were people who perished. Also remembering that Jack had told Rose she would die and old woman, warm in her bed.

I like my version better.

Don thinks I am incredibly naive and innocent.

oh you poor child.
Of course she dies! She is back with Jack at the end.

Although that movie still makes me angry. Honestly, i thought you said you wouldnt ever let go! And you could have let him on the damn blank of wood with you, or headboard or whatever it was!

edit: that's what you get when you rely on Celine Dion for information

This is quite a shock to my system. I asked Don why he didn't tell me this back in 1997 and he said it never occurred to him that anyone would interpret it in any other way. And how long did I expect the old woman to live, anyway?

Well, I had hoped they wouldn't have to drag her lifeless corpse off the research vessel. One more day, sheesh.

I think she died in the end(it would be more romantic i think)
and according to wikipedia, "The final shot of her in bed is ambiguous, as some believe her to have died, whereas some think she is merely asleep. Stuart herself believes the character to have died, whereas in his DVD audio commentary Cameron says that he prefers to leave the viewer to interpret the shot."
but obviously they wanted to leave the ending of the movie to the audience to imagine.

this movie made me cry so hard and i just love it. the ending made me cry as well.

If James Cameron says it is ambiguous, then I will continue to believe she is merely dreaming and the poor ol' gal didn't kick the bucket there on the boat.

Even if I don't like Leonardo Di Caprio, I wish she would have died instead of him(if they don't both die).

I have no love for the Leo. I dont hate him, but I really dont see the appeal.
I think Annie Anne loves him though, dont you?
