Hey ho everyone. 2008 is coming to a close and we have a lot to think back on... the Olympics, the financial crisis, The Colbert Report won an Emmy (finally!), and a year of great music!

I wanted to start a poll and see what everyone's favorites were in music this year (besides Travis' Ode to J. Smith). I know the year is not over yet, but I was planning on updating the poll up until the end of December. This isn't a race or anything, I wanted to document other people's music trends for class.

Here's the deal:

- pick your FIVE favorite albums that were released in 2008.
- I'll say it one more time pick albums that were released in 2008. Don't care if you discovered it in 2008 and it really came out in '06. Too bad, not really all that sad.
- I'm going to assume we all enjoyed Ode to J. Smith, so try to pick another CD. Please.

I'll keep tally, and update the thread as much as I can.

I found Ra Ra Riot thanks to WOXY (Thanks again Dak!). One of my favorite songs this year was probably "Oh, La"

Oh, yes! I'd say the whole album is at the very least consistent with Oh, La...maybe even better. The opening track...Ghost Under Rocks is just killer. And then, well, don't get me started on the Kate Bush cover. :D hehe, I think I was looking forward to this album the most after last years EP and hearing them live in the Lounge on WOXY. :)

I like that they incorporate stringed instruments into their music. I'm pretty much a sucker whenever bands do that. Arcade Fire, Ra Ra Riot, Andrew Bird, Gogol Bordello, Shout Out Louds... yeah, gets me every time.

I recently started watching House 10 days, so I've spent the past week and a half catching up on the first 4 seasons. I watched the season 4 finale where *SPOILER ALERT* Amber dies, and at first you don't think you're going to care because after all her nickname has been cutthroat bitch the whole season. But then Wilson starts crying and then "Re:Stacks" from "For Emma, Forever Ago" started playing and I just lost it. I started balling. Powerful stuff, Bon Iver

One more vote for
Vampire Weekend and
Death Cab for Cutie.
Elbow's Seldom Seen Kid is definately one of the favourites this year
and I also like Paul Heaton's The Cross Eyed Rambler.
Lets add Keane: Perfect Symmetry

Lol I've only bought four 2008 albums (excluding Travis), but they're all awesome. So don't know if my list is therefore 'legitimate' for the poll, but for the record:

Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid
Angus & Julia Stone - A Book Like This (it was released in the UK 2008 anyway)
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Keane - Perfect Symmetry
