I cried. It seemed likely that he was going to win but I was scared to get too hopeful. When it was clear I was very overwhelmed.

As expected, the Texas votes went to McCain. But no surprise Obama won in Travis county, along with a few others. As Ric said, I live on an island:

What a night!!! I had tears in my eyes when it was finally announced that Barack Obama would be our new President! What a speech he gave! He is really an amazing speaker and has already brought a lot of hope and inspiration to our country. I hope he can help mend the divides, not only between the democrats and republicans, but also between the US and other countries. We need peace.

It was amazing to see the young black people crying and hugging in the streets - what a victory for them…and for all of us, really. It was so moving! I cried! Thank GOD we got it right this time!!!

Sorry to hear about prop 8 in Cali. It’s very sad that we are taking away the rights of same-sex couples. Let them live their lives and be happy. It’s not hurting anyone.

However, I am pleased to report that here in Michigan both stem cell research and medical marijuana passed. Even Oakland County, a rich, white, affluent area, voted for Obama. I was happily surprised.

Fran, how great that you were able to share in this with us! And how cool that Ode To J. Smith came out on such an important day in American history!!!

i'm really happy about the election, well done =) it was great watching all those happy people on tv last night/this morning, it looked like a huge party. plus, i think george bush didn't get any sleep, hrhr ;)

so yeah, i'm glad obama won, i really like him and his speech last night impressed me a lot! although i still think too high expectations can easily end in disappointment. but i guess the world will just have to wait and see what happens. i think last night looked like a change already.

=)

I hope he lives up to expectations and delivers on his promises. He seems like a nice guy but I think politicans are all out for themselves.I think people like Obama,Brown etc are just the public faces anyway. The puppets if you like. You never actually see the ones that are REALLY running the country.

Really happy for you guys. That's the first thing I heard this morning when I woke up. What a nice way to wake up. One of the Spanish newspapers published this on its cover:

(That means: it's not a dream anymore).

Great cover. I was thinking of him this morning. What would he say about this...

Best of luck!
