I'm SO with you here, Mónica! I don't like them, either. Or wait a sec - I did like "Volver", but only because it had some nice scenes in it. Otherwise I think Almodóvar is just too... I don't know... maybe his movies are just too "arty" for me?
Seriously, when I watched "Hable con ella", it totally freaked me out. Same with "La mala educación". One of his new movies, "Los abrazos rotos" was actually part of my Spanish test last semester - I SO wanted to flee from the room when I heard the beginning of our "audición"-exam text: "La nueva película de Almodóvar..."
And you know what, I think CARMEN MAURA has something very very creepy about her, too. She so fits in all those movies.

*high five*
I liked La mala educación (I have to say I just saw half of it :p). García Bernal's accent is awesome. He speaks like a Spanish.
Carmen Maura is a great actress. My brother and I talked about this the other (don't ask me why *lol*).

City of God, Talk To Her, The Hidden Fortress. That would be my top 3. I really really like Almodovar's and Kurosawa's body of work.

Goodbye Lenin
La Vita è Bella
Cinema Paradiso

...and probably some that I forgot. Technically, all films in English are foreign to me, but I assume we're talking non-English films :o)

Some recommendable Danish films:

The Feast
Pelle the Conquerer
Oh Happy Day
The Kingdom

wasn't she on "Mar Adentro", too? Yes I guess she is a great actress, but somehow I think she's kinda creepy... probably it's because of the characters she plays... hm...

yeees, mister garcía bernal... ;)

I just noticed that the Hungarian film "Kontroll" is on tv again. I enjoyed it last time it was on.

I have a couple of nominations for this...

Citade de Deus (City of God) - an absolutelyharrowing and brutal look at life in the flavelas(slums) of Rio de Janerio

Betty Blue 37.2 le Matin - a man meets a beautiful but seriously unhinged woman and does everything he can to make her happy but ultimately fails as she's a bit of a loony

Spirited Away - Japanese animated Alice in Wonderland type, like the fairytales of old quite dark in places.

Spirited Away is incredible.

Paprika, a japanese animated film. Very weird, but still awesome.

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulin.

I love Takeshi Kitano's films. He's the best foreign director in my opinion.
Have you seen Hanabi, Kikujiro's summer or Brother?

Spirited Away is a very touching film, it became my favourite when I first saw it.
