I want to share what I use to listen to music I do use the Qobuz music streaming service I use this on the move and at home I use Qobuz a it’s CD quality streaming up to HI RES streaming
I have always been very passionate about sound quality and I don’t think now I have what I have I could go back to lower sound quality
I have been using the shure SE535 IEMs in ear monitors for all portable music listening in the car as a passenger I don’t drive. Also for long train journeys and when working out in the gym I use these along with a HIBY R4 portable digital music player you can’t just plug the SE535 into your phone they do require amplification of some Kind the HIBY R4 I use has 4 DAC chips and it runs the android operating system so you çan add music streaming apps to it
The SE535 do require high quality audio sources to get the most out of them I hear things in my music that I have never heard before the instrument seperation is amazing on these and there also super comfortable to wear as long as you get the correct fit. The sound is very natural and the bass is not overblown it’s accurate
The SE535 feature 3 HD drivers per ear
I really recommend using high quality headphones and earphones like both of the Shure I have mentioned here another thing about Shure is that they don’t tune their earphones or headphones to sound a certain way and the SE535 are not your regular consumer earphones they are IEMs in ear monitors
The sound isolation is also very impressive again as long as you get the correct fit I use the black large tips as these give me the best seal and sound quality. They are also brillant for tv and film audio and gaming audio
At home I use the Shure SRH1840 open backed headphones for all tv film gaming ant music listening these do requie a headphone amplifier and again high quality audio sources to get the most out of them but it’s worth it everything sounds natural accurate on them and the instrument seperation is again amazing plus they are an extremely comfortable pair of headphones to wear
The music I mostly listen to is that I have really got into classical music the last few years I often have Classic FM UK on during the day at home here in France and I also love indie rock soft rock alternative music
But I would love to know what you all use to listen to music are you passionate about sound quality like I am?
I am about to head out for the evening going into La Rochelle having something to eat the weather is warm here and taking the dog too I will be listening to music on the journey

When we play live I use ultimate ears. I’m more of a monitor person. If the song was good, I wouldn’t care if it was on a wind up gramophone or coming out of an iPhone speaker. For prolonged listening I have, since Christmas, been using the Teenage Engineering OB-4 Magic Radio. I use Apple Music as my player. I do wish live music sounded better than it currently does. There is a company called Flare Audio out of the UK who make headphones which, when I use them, uncover things I have never heard before. I prefer older recordings as there is a lot more live playing. I love the thought that behind the speaker and down a 70 year long wire there is Chick Berry or Nina Simone or whoever, playing live and alive. That we figured out how to record sound and how much enjoyment this has brought the world always fills me with awe. And it’s invisible!

I keep looking at In-Ear monitors as I play geeetar too as I have never ever had a standard pair of in ear off the shelf buds that fit me, one canal bigger than the other etc. I have had moulds done but never taking the leap yet but UE is the ones I always look at. Currently use Nothing Ear Sticks as they don’t go in the ear canal.

Kind of related, I got back into listening to vinyl a few years ago after about twenty years away from it. I love it but I’ll never understand how vinyl works. Dragging a needle through a bit of plastic and music coming out is witchcraft.

I usually listen to music through my iPad’s speakers for the sake of my hearing and ear comfort. Sometimes I listen to CDs, and although I’ve bought some vinyl records, I don’t have a turntable yet—I plan to buy one later.

When I can be arsed I bring out my Decca Legato Deluxe and listen to cassettes, it’s my absolute favourite way of listening. Other than that it’s just YouTube music through whichever speaker is nearest to my body at that moment.

I don’t think any of my equipment is particularly ‘high end’ but it suits me fine. I’m certainly not an audiophile, but I enjoy listening to music as an activity in and of itself and giving it my full attention, rather than listening to it whilst I’m doing something else (although I do that too!) I’m not sure why, but I’ve always loved Sony equipment. My turntable, amp, speakers and CD player in my music room are all Sony, as are my bluetooth/noise cancelling headphones, as well as the hi-fi in my living room. Oh, and a portable bluetooth speaker for different rooms in the house, or in the garden – also Sony.
I don’t tend to stream music. My Amazon Music has largely been taken over by my wife. I still use iTunes 12 on my laptop as my main music library, and I prefer buying the music rather than streaming it. Love it when an LP comes with a download code! If not, I’ll buy the digital album and transfer it onto my devices (phone and tablet) for listening through my hi-fi, headphones or bluetooth speakers.

Cool topic, and nice to see what people prefer. Once I got my Sony MDR headphones, I haven’t looked back. Can’t be bothered with earbuds.
As for format, since I have everything–vinyl, CDs, cassettes, digital, ect.–I play them all and enjoy the variety. But nothing beats the warmth of vinyl. -

I think also for me is that I used to use CDs before streaming and the problem was they used to wear out and you would have to buy a new copy plus the storage space I needed as well
I always buy a digital version of any new albums I like

I forgot to mention that I use a Chord Mojo DAC when listening to Music via Qobuz on my Mac mini M4
The chord mojo is a portable headphone amplifier I have the first version which has been replaced by the chord mojo 2

I’ve been slowly building up my hifi over the last few years. It has a Sony turntable and amp, a Marantz CD6007 cd player, and Dali Spektor 1 shelf speakers. I have the best part of 2000 CDs and add more weekly. My vinyl collection is a bit smaller than that, but I do still add to it from time to time.
When mobile, I use Apple Music in the car, but on foot I use my trusty Sony Digital Walkman, which is loaded up with around 30,000 songs. A lot are MP3 or AAC but most are FLAC.
