The virtual elephant in the room. What are your thoughts on it? How consciously do you use it?

I don’t use it. I think it has its uses in science and for accessibility, but it should have never been made into the monster it is right now. There is no need for people to ask ‘how many Rs are in strawberry’ when you can just write it or look it up in a dictionary.
The downsides are too many and it’s destroying our planet even faster, without even considering the ethics of it being made off the backs of stolen art. -
Agree 100% with @Sirius. I hate it and avoid it whenever possible (I’m sure it’s integrated into just about everything at this point so I end up using it without realizing it, but I never use it to answer questions or generate things for me, I have Apple Intelligence turned off on my phone, etc). I’m an artist and graphic designer, and I hate that it is “trained” by stealing other artists’ work. It seems that every business in my town has the same, ugly AI posters plastered on their doors and Instagram accounts, it just reeks of cheapness and corner-cutting, and it’s hard for me to justify supporting a local business who is not, in turn, supporting THEIR local designers. I hate the environmental impact. I hate that we constantly have to question if videos are real, and I REALLY hate that one of the true joys of the internet, funny animal videos, has been ruined forever because of this lol.

It’s a tool created by corporations—a top-down affair. Unfortunately, AI is being integrated into everything; I don’t blame the people who use it without realizing the consequences, but rather those who created the monster.
They only show the result, skipping the process the output is artificial and hollow—an ugly, soulless, and tacky corporate aesthetic. Worst of all, it devalues artists across the board, in every field. I don’t think it’s hard to use one’s brain to create something—after all, we don’t even use its full capacity.

It’s killing art unless we societally reject generated content.
I see very few but not zero moral uses, and that’s subjective, anyways.

I am completely against AI; of course, it is very useful for some things at times, and when I am practically forced to use it, I have to—there is no other choice. But if it were up to me, I would never use it; it causes humans to lose their creativity.

I think ai is a good tool for the sciences. Not sure about art because art is a trait that is likely to be distinctly human. Ai traits are different and if it is allowed to make its own art for itself I think it will make interesting stuff… possibly. I doubt they will ever reach GI but its computational abilities should open an incredible new chapter in science. I never thought the future would be like this. The last 25 years have been so technologically accelerated. The mass dissemination of information brought about on the social media platforms and the internet at large is of an unfathomable scale. Like when the printing press arrived. It was a cultural catalyst that lead to a thirty year war which took ages to tidy up. I tend to stay away from my phone these days. Every time I get the urge to pick up my phone I pick up a book. I’ve taught myself pretty well. Currently reading Dubliners. Just finished Great Expectations. Anyways that’s my two cents.

I saw a good thing (think it was Tim Minchin) who pointed out a big problem with AI in the arts.
Most artists (novelists and writers excepted) create art because language alone is insufficient to express themselves.
AI responds to language prompts so therefor falls short for me in terms of expression.
I think there is obviously a lot of positive uses for it, but think we need to be super aware of where and how it is being used.

Yeah I echo the ideas that it has a place in more scientific or technical circles, but I don’t feel it has any place in art. For me, the definition of art is human expression. I think, even when AI makes some fantastic-looking stuff – which it certainly is capable of – it isn’t artistic, it isn’t expressing anything. It’s just replicating stuff, and showing you what it thinks you want to see or hear.
Of course, the other even more dangerous part of AI is that it’s difficult to tell what’s real and what isn’t any more, and it’s only going to get tougher. We really are in the “post-truth” era. 😅

Ben Affleck had a really good take on AI for art – that it won’t ever get nuance or taste and therefore won’t know when to edit itself or stop.

I only use AI to Fill in/expand some generic background on Photoshop to save time, otherwise I try to avoid it as much as possible.

I use it at work. I’d an idea for years to make easiest quotes and operating stuffs at my business… I paid 2 years ago to an agency and was waste of money. Nowadays I spend a few weeks to explain the AI what I was specifically requesting and now finally get the OS,a kind of CRM/ ERP but completely to my requirements at the business, it’s not completely but I’m in beta phase and working to get easier my day by day.
So, the AI helps to do some stuffs, but you must to know how to ask it, and use for really good things, not following threads or asking nonsense things, also it’s important to remember the AI is not a doctor or a psychologist.
