That the email we got from “Travis” or “Fran” was rude and egotistical. I like your tunes Fran but have no interest in you as a person since your Solo gig at Oran Mor where you rambled and lectured the audience on some hippy bullshit.I don’t need to be lectured that it’s inappropriate to request you to play at my wedding or sign something for me. However, if someone cares that passionately about your band, buy your albums, buy your merch and as such have elevated you to the success and rewards you’ve achieved, then surely you could just be kind and tell them you have other commitments but it’s an honour your music will feature in their wedding. Instead you just call them all out as dickheads. Rude as fuck. Please just make more music and stop pushing your own opinions on your fan base. It’s really unclassy.

It is valid that the set they rules according to how the would feel more comfortable and safer. However I do believe it was a bit to much to use that kind of examples, that’s something I honestly didn’t expect from them -I do think they didn’t have to overexplain that specific rule they way the did it. Love their music and love them, but that wee detail made me feel kind of off 😕

Not sure if I’ve used this right but I was trying to quote you. You’ve articulated much better than I could. Absolutely agree that there needs to be boundaries and the band shouldn’t feel harassed. I just think that’s common sense though and maybe there has been problems with a handful of fans. I thought the sweeping generalisation of everyone was just so rude and improper. You aren’t fucking gods mate. And again I found it really mean and cruel. Typically the fans who don’t understand the line (the line is fine) or common sense are vulnerable people, just be kind and say thanks but no thanks. I sincerely doubt Travis are getting a nonstop streak of requests to play a wedding – doubt they even get one a week. How the fuck is that too much effort to respond to and be kind to your fans. Also the quip about charity work / shaving your head was just embarrassing. Actually gave me the boke.

The world has turned more aggressive and unsafe, particularly on-line; but, yeah, the way they composed that part of the text could be considered rude -I know it was meant to be kind of a joke, but I didn’t like it. I mean, they know their fanbase, it’s not like everyone’s asking things like those.
BTW, thanks to you I learnt a new expression, love the “boke” part, never heard it before 😅

I hear you. But it’s interesting how some bands can be openly rude and still get endless love, while Travis – one of the kindest bands out there – makes one awkward joke and gets called arrogant. Maybe we can give them a little grace. They’ve earned it.
That said, I also understand your feeling. After all the kindness this band has shown over the years, I think we can forgive one clumsy joke. Peace & love.🤘🏻

@sumiresailon yeah, definitely, it’s actually not a big deal, but it felt awkward as you just said it. Love them still, I was just expressing the way it made feel too, not biggie, I think.

Exactly that. Still love the band and their music. I wouldn’t know about kindness as I’ve never been close to them nor tried to be. Just not interested. Perhaps you have a closer relationship with them? Regardless it’s still shit to call out an extremely small fraction of your fan base when anyone with half a brain cell would realise any fans that overstep are likely vulnerable and don’t understand meeting your hero etiquette 🙄
