Sad to hear one of our greatest painters has passed away. https://youtu.be/vA_I0qwnh_w?is=b8tNgLBNCdpjn3F2
I think the only time he wasn’t painting was when he was asleep and he was likely painting in his dreams too. Has anyone seen any of his work in a museum? -

Ah that is awfully sad. I didn’t know much about him until I got talking to someone wearing a Salts Mill sausage dog tshirt one evening – actually after a the BBC SSO show at the Barrowlands. Really love his work now.

Oh man, that’s sad. One of the greats. I’ve seen some of his works displayed at the Tate, I used to visit there quite frequently when I lived down South. I also remember, many many years ago, the first time I met my husband, he referenced David Hockney in a conversation and I knew then that we were a good match! Rest in peace, David.

Oh, rest in peace.
I honestly hadn’t seen any of his work, but i just looked it up, and wow, the colours he used are so wild and vibrant.

I feel like the world has lost an icon. I always feel like his work is like a Wes Anderson movie. The feel and the colours are vintage but feel modern at the same time. I haven’t saw any of his work in person, but perhaps one day.

I was thinking the same! I recently watched Asteroid City, and it kind of gave me the same vibes – the composition, the colours, the light. Now I wonder if Anderson used Hockney as reference for this film.

It’s so striking!
I always feel like I’m drawn to those warm colours palettes.

It was sad to hear. Haven’t seen his work in a museum, but learned about him in art school many moons ago

Saw his work a few times at the Gallery in Salts Mill in Saltaire https://saltsmill.org.uk/mobile/ – a behemoth of a mill near Bradford in West Yorkshire, originally created by Titus Salt as a philanthropic community for the Mill workers in the 1800s. Amazing works – highly, highly recommend a visit to the gallery and indeed, the whole village. Bought a bright and turquoise Californian pool print which cheered up my drab Leeds student house in the 90s.
V Sad to hear he’s gone : (. A great Yorkshireman. I am hoping to get back to Saltaire there on future visit home from Oz.
