What’s the best gig you’ve been to? Why was it special?

Neil
A particular standout was Suede in Berlin many years ago – Brett Andersons energy was off the charts

I can’t remember the year but it was the mid 90s in Ancienne Belgique concert Hall in Brussels. Travis came along and suddenly Fran called everyone to be quiet and started busking. Solo, just acoustic guitar, and voice. Goosebumps!

Brett still has the moves. Saw Suede at the Usher Hall and it was outstanding. Brett really puts on a show and so pleased to see the devotion of the new generation getting into it. Ruby and I are going back for some more action later this year to a Manics/Suede double header. They did it a few years ago at Edinburgh Castle, Ruby and I went and it was SO SO GOOD!

Travis playing Sheffield in December 2024 was a fantastic night. Great atmosphere, great songs and the stories Fran told, both sad and funny, were special and from the heart.
I didnt know what to expect that night but it was magical.Another band is Rammstein (yes, I have a wide range of tastes in music) who I wasn’t a great fan of but went with a friend. Didnt understand a word they said (being German) but what a show. How they got the pyrotechnics past Health & Safety I will never know! 🙂
As for smaller bands, I can recommend Blue Nation. Saw them supporting Laurence Jones a few years ago and became a big fan. Great lads from Birmingham with great songs, singer had a great voice and the banter between them really showed how funny and close they were.

Absolutely best gig ever was live at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. It was maybe a week or two after the 9/11 attacks.
I knew nothing about the band and a friend had an extra ticket. It was absolutely life changing! I was hooked on Travis for life.
Here was a super smooth cool bass player, an eccentric and lively lead guitarist, and this Mohawked punk rocker looking lead singer with a pretty vocal! And of course the drummer with the long spiked hair locking it in! A true band of rockstars.

Seeing Travis in Salt Lake City last year was truly one of the best shows ever. Got to attend a sound check and 🤯

I got to see Travis at the Theatre at the Ace hotel in Los Angeles back in November 2022 with my wife and my old New York roommate. What a great gothic theatre venue and such a brilliant set playing the whole of The Invisible Band album.

For me it was August 2007, Mexico City, Palacio de los Deportes. The setlist was one of the longest ever, they kept on playing and playing, and I just couldn’t believe it. Mind-blowing gig.

Travis at eastbourne. Fran dived in to the audience to help a lady who had passed out and the collected money for the local food Bank. I didn’t think I could love them more than I did but I was wrong. Second best gig was keane at battle abbey.

March 2004 I happened to be in Scotland. Hopped the train from Edinburgh to Glasgow to see Travis play at home. One of the best concert experiences of my life, especially that evening’s rendition of “Happy to Hang Around.”

Any Travis gig honestly. And McCartney’s gig at the stade de France in 2004 was pretty special. I also have a very fond memories of the David Byrne gig this year in Paris and the Parquet courts gig sometime in 2016 in LA, these guys had so much raw energy
