That maple shaped candy is harder to find than you might think! They do have it in Ottawa at this outdoor market, though. Sadly, they dont sell it on every street corner though. Sometimes you can get the lollipop version. they are fun. Oh, and at Parliament! I got some along with my Pierre Trudeau bookmart. I LOVE giftshops.
Dry erase, laminated leaves sounds like the best idea ever. You are right, no downside at all. And think of how easy it will be for parents to get their kids to rake!
Bummer about the candy but I guess it makes it more special. It really is good.
I know my Candianish money will not only help the economy, but encourage tidier neighborhoods as people rake leaves more readily.
I can see it now:
"Stop jumping in my leaves you hooligans *shakes fist*! That is costing me hundreds of dollars! Canadianish dollars!!"
I can see it now:

But see, here is the true beauty in my plan. The hooligans could respond, "chill out bro! Just write a new amount on the Canadianish dollar already in your pocket."
And it'd be all good. You are showing another benefit: more peace in the community.
Yay! I'm with you on that, I wish I could go Trick or Treating - but I'm not allowed, I'm too old! I'll have to find someone who's taking a little sibling :)

The best was my first year of univeristy bc they arranged to take us around to all the embassies and the Prime Minister and Governor General's houses (i went to school in Ottawa, anada's capital). It was awesome bc we all wanted excuses to trick or treat again. I was a leprechaun and won a prize. fantatic!
My friend is having a party this year, so i have a costume excuse! woot
Anne, It would be more like "Chill out, you hoser" hahaha. Man, im going to bring hoser back as canadian vanacular. No one says it!

Maybe you could offer to take a neighbor child as a favor - or even charge the parents!

To be honest I don't think I'd find one! We only ever seem to get like, two kids coming to our door! Either they're all afraid of our house (there's no reason they should be!) or there are just no kids that live near me. We still buy a whole load of junk food though, so we should have plenty left over :)
I'm an October baby, so I love fall. I love summer too, but I'm so ready for a change! Leaves, pumpkins, doughnuts, apple cider, pumpkin lattes, jackets, hats, boot, scarves! Yay!
I'm an October baby, too. October is the best month of the year!
Man, i should make them treats! Hmm, something canadian specific. Hmm, maple something or other? I love that you told him he had to share, hahaha. As if he was one of your kids. "You better share with your friends, or no drumming for you tonight, mister!"
Hahaha, okay, im a naughty dirty bird and that is why my skirt is staticy. Fair enough!
I had an idea. As an act of environmental friendliness, should Canadianish money be printed on actual maple leaves? Fallen ones of course. It would save so much paper! And each one would be unique and beautiful. Money will literally grow on trees. there might be a littlecounterfeit issue, but other than that!
My sharing edict just shows the mom in me. But I recognized that gleam in his eye. I've seen it in my kids' eyes when they are looking at something they don't want to share.
You should make something. Or bring them a maple candy. I've had those before and they were tasty. It was basically sugar and maple syrup. It was, of course, maple leaf shaped.
About the money, I like it. To prevent crumbling, I suggest we laminate it. Then people can just write the amount they want it to be worth with a dry erase marker. I can't imagine any downside to this idea.

Ha, I was TOTALLLY going to get them some maple sugar candy when I saw them at the Toronto show...but i forgot, and Im sad I did...the only good thing about Fall ending (as I love the fall) is the maple candy...how I love the maple candy.
