What's this "we" shit paleface ??

I'd much rather have the choice, instead of having an outdated religious ban forced upon the nation, does abstaining from boozing and/or gambling and/or meat make you a better Christian ???

I just expressed my opinion, but sure I could have replaced "we" with "I", if I would have known that people would get offended by what I wrote :P

I think the people who work at bars deserves some time off though :) You can always buy some beer and drink it in a park :D

i was going to call my band the paleface, now i can't cause you've made it an insult

Haha, it's not an insult, it's foman old joke which I can't remember about The Lone Ranger and Tonto getting into trouble with some Indians, The Lone Ranger asks Tonto "Can we get out of this?" and Tonto shows his true colours by replying "What's the 'we' shit, paleface??"

Well, it's not exactly forced on you is it? Sure you can't go to a pub, but it's only one day in a year, and you can always stock up on beer on the thursday. And go ahead and cook meat if you want to, it's up to you in the end how much you want to follow your religion if it is your religion. Personally I feel Christianity has lost so much of it's strictness, for lack of a better word, that it can't hurt to give something up for a day once in a while.

Whoa, there are actually deer in Phoenix park? I didn't know that, althought the postcard i got of there with a deer on it should probably have been a bit of a giveaway...

No you can't, if you had read my original post. There is NO ALCOHOL for sale anywhere in Ireland today.

It's an archaic religous decision that has been forced upon what is now a modern multi denominational nation. As for giving time off, most people who work in the service industry in Ireland do not get paid holidays, therefore they are all a days wage down because it's a stupid fucking religous holiday, why can't it just be a bank holiday r a public holiday ???

valid points, just there are a lot of non-christians who might fancy a drink in their local who have it closed for what has mostly become a tradition to people rather than a belief.i think there are very few christians i know who still consider it a venal sin to eat meat or drink today,

I agree, if you are a Christian. I however am not and I have already stated that I have no problem with people having whatever beliefs they want as long as they don't force them upon others. There should be choice, which at the moment there isn't. I know people have given up drink for lent never mind just today. That's fine but why should it affect me ?? If everyone who owns and works in the local pub is Catholic and wants to give up drink or work on Good Friday then fair enough it should be closed but it should not be closed due to an archaic church decree. I mean seriously I used to live next to a Molloys Liquor Store the place was queued out the door every Thursday night before Good Friday and Christmas Eve with people stocking up for 1 fucking day. Surely with the current problem and attitudes towards alcohol in Ireland at the moment there would be less alcohol drunk today if it was not "forbidden" by church law ??

I read it ;) I thought that if knew you wanted to drink today then you always could have bunkered up with beer earlier or something :)

the deer.

there are bye-laws prohibiting the consumption of alcohol in our parks and green areas.it carries a hefty fine if you’re caught
i think the deer have a say in policing the public drinking order too.

I have beer in the fridge and there's plenty of alcohol kicking around the house, the point I'm making is not about me being able to slake my thirst for alcohol but rather about the choice.

Oh and it's illegal to drink in public places in Dublin too, so I couldn't drink outside even if I had the choice of purchasing some alcohol.

Well okay. For me it wouldn't be a problem if the pubs were closed one or a couple of times a year, but I don't live in Ireland either ;)

I apologise for my ignorance, but I am intruiged. Is the sale of alcohol prohibited on ever religous holiday in Ireland i.e. Easter Sunday, Christmas Day etc etc or is it just on Good Friday?
I never realised that was the case. That does suck.

It's only Good Friday and Christmas Day, there are certain exceptions:- Residents bars in Hotels and I think a few Golf Clubs but generally no alcohol for sale on these two days.

Alright, fair enough, I get what you mean. But think about it, do you complain when you get Christmas presents?
