i was chatting with minnmess about what shaped our taste in music, what we listened to as kids that might explain what we like today. I'm curious to know what your answers are?

as embarrassing as this may be, i will admit:

i wanna sex you up-color me bad

hammertime-mc hammer

feel the vibrations-marky mark

ez-e

warren g

hang tough-new kids on the block...

and the, not so embarrassing ones:

hang the dj-the smiths

the cure

welcome to the jungle-guns and roses

depeche mode

suedehead-morrissey

don't dream it's over-crowded house

just to name a few

i listened to a mix of bad bad music..think Backstreet Boys, Nsync, etc in my tween/early teen days, but also some good stuff:
Oasis, Live, Our Lady Peace, Bush, Tragically Hip...Travis came into my view when i was 14 or so.
Hmm, defining songs of my youth. Here are some I remember that everyone listened to
Wonderwall-Oasis
Salvation-The Cranberries
Umm, that "what if God was one of us...just a slob like one of us" song. Somebody Osborne?
Glyserine-Bush...it was always the last song at our grade 7 and 8 dances!
Don't Speak-No Doubt
That Boyz II Men and Mariah Carey song! One Sweet Day!

k, im sure there are hundreds more, but that is off the top of my head.

oh yeahhhh, that was joan osborne, i used to think that she was ozzy's daughter:-p you reminded me of a boyz 2 men song that i really liked, it was called "till the end of the road", i think, really slow and generic sounding, now, but back then it was "soooo cool"

I loved Boyz II Men's On Bended Knee! I used to listen to the "im going to swallow my pride...say im sorry.." part over and over again. on tape. Just so you dont feel old Darran.
Throwing another question out there. One that is going to embarress me. What was the first tape/cd (record for some of you) you bought?
Here is my breakdown:
first tape i bought was Mariah Carey (sad sad me)
first cd i bought was Backstreet Boys (also sad sad me)
and the first cd i owned, although it was bought for me was Wigfield! haha, remember that song "Saturday Night" ?? (oh, and sad sad me again)

Well, I wouldn't say you're that sad, since that would mean that I am also...

On second thought, sad sad us!

my first cassette waaaaas,hm, oh yeah, it was "Strangeways here we come" by the Smiths, and "strangely";-) enough, I still love those songs! I mean, come on, the lyrics are frickin great,"Hello, I am the ghost of troubled Joe hung by his pretty white neck some 18 months ago,..."" A rush and a push and the land that we stand on is ours, it has before and it shall be again, and ppl who are uglier than you and i, they gte what they want and just leave." classic stuff, i think :-]
