Ok, I'll try to explain the German "Manno":
when a small (German) child (or a slightly bigger person) wants to get/do something, but mummy says "no", then he/she will stamp his/her foot and say "Och Manno!" (or maybe he/she will just say "manno" or "menno", fold his/her arms and be sulky for about ten minutes.)
we also use it when we
- don't want to help mummy with housework, but have to
- are bored and are a tad unhappy about this situation
- have managed to build a perfect house of cards and are just about to call mummy - when the stupid thing collapses "ACH MANNOOOOOO!" (in this particular case, the "Ach Manno!" will be accompanied by other German words I really don't want to teach you ;D)
Oh god, we use it in so many situations...
But erm... let's say it's nothing you should say in a business meeting... neither should you use it in front of professors, employers, in-laws, etc ;)

Manno means somehting like Bloody Hell! or just MAAAN!
Frans german pronunciation is really good btw. I think once he lived here for a couple of years and improved his german he will speak virtually accentless.

Ah, I see. I still have one in that stage. So, to add to our collection of pee-pee phrases around the world, how do you say, "I have to go pee-pee" in German? I can say it in English (obviously), French, and Spanish so far! |
