there's knobs in any crowd wherever you go. my experience of scottish crowds is that they're no better or no worse than anywhere else. except london which has the worst crowds. so what? Fran's Scottish, he probably saw most of his gigs in his formative years in Scotland, quite probably at the Barras, so he'll have an emotional attachment to it. Just like Manchester bands have attachments to places like The Ritz or the hacienda or London bands to Hammersmith palais, the astoria and Brixton academy.
Just because Fran Healy thinks a venue is the best or a certain crowd is the best, and it seems he's said different things at different times, it's just his opinion. And he's a human being like the rest of us, not some sort of demigod whose opinion counts more than the rest of us on such matters.

I don't know what it is, but the Barras has this magic atmosphere. Concerts, especially Travis gigs turn into massive parties, leaving you in a drunken state and that even without a drink in you ! lol

It reminded me of when I saw Travis in Los Angeles, nobody was dancing or moving besides my friends and I, well at least that I could see.
But I would like to say that I think that Travis fans are some of the nicest fans around. While waiting in line for the show I heard a girl call out "hey" I looked up and saw the girl run picked up some money this guy had dropped and said "you dropped this." The girl had a Selfish Jean shirt on, which I found amusing. |
