Now that we have our creative juices flowing, it's time to try our skills at writing. Your challenge is to write a song using one of these titles taken from Travis Chat subjects. Written lyrics only, no music. The titles are:

"Come To Chile Again"
"Good Monday Mornings"
"Missing You"
"Where Are The Umbrellas"

"Where are the Umbrellas"

where are the umbrellas
i miss them oh so much
each rain with my fellas
always after lunch

blue and white stripes
plus a bit of rock
is all i need to stand
beside you all day long

cause heeeeeeey where are the umbrellas?
i feel empty without them, fellas
don't wanna feel the sun

and heeeeeey i'd really love a little rain
can see it soaking our little brains
i wanna feel you love

"Good Monday Mornings"

Everything looks grey and lonely
It´s 6 am on a Monday morning
What can I do If my Sunday was not good enough?
What can I do if my coffe is getting cold?
And I really don´t want to go to work?

I say to myself Good Monday Mornings
Everything will be fine
Good Monday Mornings
Mum is in the kitchen wearing a crown

"Come to Chile again"

I remember, it was a saturday morning
we saw your faces, without a warning
we kissed you, we said so many 'thank you's that day
and suddenly was sunday, the price we had to pay

all those people and friends,
all those tears and big mess,
just one smile to make us happy
and we're all jumping and clapping

come back to chile again, come back to this beautiful land
we promise we won't be crazy, we'll take each others hands
let us sing a song, let us touch the sky for a while
just like three months ago, you made us feel so alive

4. Turtleneck wrote

"Good Monday Mornings"

Our good lovin' Sundays
Made good morning Mondays
But that won't happen no more.
Now I'm stuck here on Tuesday
Each day is a blues day
Since you walked out of my door.

I called in a sick day
It's cold and it's rainy
There's nothing on TV that's good.
I'm not even hungry
My tea has gone tepid
The toast is as black as my mood.

(Chorus)
Stop in at church
A walk in the park
Dinner for two
A kiss in the dark
Our good lovin' Sundays
Always made good Monday mornings

The tears streaming down burn hot on my face
The memories of you are all over the place
I can't believe you said goodbye
To our good Monday mornings.
Our good lovin' Sundays always made good Monday mornings.
(Repeat Chorus)

I can't believe you said goodbye to our good Monday mornings.

"Where Are The Umbrellas"

Splashes on the window sill
Dripping down the wall
The rain-soaked girl
Walks down the hall
Where are the umbrellas?
It will never stop
I let the days slip by now
Without looking at the clock
Where are the umbrellas?
I feel it's here to stay
It came the day the sun went away
With no one to cover her from the pouring rain
She searches for a place to remain
In the shelter she can not stay
For the puddles have not gone away
Where are the umbrellas?
It will never stop
I let the days slip by now
Without looking at the clock
Where are the umbrellas?
I feel its here to stay
It came the day the sun went away

6. Turtleneck wrote

"Missing You"

You've been away oh so long
The heaviness upon my chest compressed
The very breath out of my lungs

Recall the day we parted wrong
We bid farewell, your eye was dry
I swore I'd never write another love song

(Chorus--the goofy part)
I'm howling at a thousand moons*
Licking peanut butter off of spoons
I'm missing you
Writing songs that voices never share**
I haven't washed or combed my hair
I'm missing you

(This is where the sticky peanut butter licking music plays)

If ever you return my dear
We'll learn how to re-know, you know
Replace with love the emptiness and fear
(Repeat chorus)

* I first wrote that line in a notebook during my first year of college. I've been saving it for a LONG time!

** Of course, borrowed from Simon and Garfunkel's "The Sounds of Silence."

This is something like mine--I was thinkng of it last night and was writing in the dark. I mentioned tepid tea and calling off work. I guess I better finish mine before all the good lyrics are taken!

I've already got a song called "Missing You". Does that count?

If you hadn't have said so, we'd never have known.
Do you want it to count?
Skip a class, write a new song. You know you want to.
