I'll have to say that for me is LUV... Everytime I listen to it, it depresses me...that's why I love it! :-) And what about Morrissey's "Friday Mourning" or "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want"?
Cheers,

pretty much anything by Cohen (except The Future Album, very funny)
Everybody Hurts - REM (i know it's now cheesy but I still remember being blown away at the time)
Just - Radiohead (Love the video...the one where the guy is lying down in the middle of the pavement)
The Old Main Drag - The Pogues (a tale of going to London to find your fortune and the reality...)
Dead Souls - Joy Division
This Is How It Feels - Inspiral Carpets

It's a song from Sade, but I can't remember the song's name. Something like how could you do this to me... something like that, but it's pretty depressing. |

"The Sun is Burning" by Simon and Garfunkel. It's about what would happen if an atomic bomb were dropped while people were having fun in the park. Here are the last two cheerful verses.
"Now the sun has come to Earth
Shrouded in a mushroom cloud of death
Death comes in a blinding flash
Of hellish heat and leaves a smear of ash
And the sun has come to Earth
Now the sun has disappeared
All is darkness, anger, pain, and fear
Twisted sightless wrecks of men
Go groping on their knees and cry in pain
And the sun has disappeared." |
