i can think of several Radiohead songs that would fit the bill. But at the same time if find something beautiful about them. So i dont suppose they really count. |

"famous blue raincoat" -- leonard cohen.
i LOVE this song, the lyrics are beautiful but by Christ this isn't what you'd want to have playing in your ear when you're on hold waiting for a Samaritans volunteer.
och Leonard Cohen songs are all suicidal ! I used to hate them because they would drag me down. Only recently started to realise how beautiful they are. |

Elbow tend to write depressing lyrics
(quotes: "you burn too bright, you live too fast, this can't go on too long, you're a tragedy starting to happen" or "I'll be the corpse in your bathtub, useless") |

Here's a variety of depression (in my opinion):
Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt
Into the Ocean - Blue October
One Hundred Years - The Cure
Sullen Girl - Fiona Apple
Sunday Morning Coming Down - Johnny Cash
Plus, I should add Sigur Ros to this list - though many of their songs lack interpretation, much of their music sounds quite depressing in a beautiful sort of way. I LOVE it...
There are so many depressing songs to name! But sometimes I just like to hear depressing songs, hehe.

The Dunes - Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart
Ronnie Drew (the Dubliners and all round Irish Folk Legend) reads a bit of poetry about "The Great Hunger" (the potato famine in Ireland) over Jah Wobble's haunting melody. Unfortunately this shit is too real, Shane McGowan also mentions finding skeletons in the sand dunes in Co.Sligo when he was a young lad, basically when you're starving to death every bit of strength counts and it's easier to bury a body in sand than in earth/peat.
