Early reorts on Sky News say the World Rally Champion has been killed in a helicopter crash near his home in Lanarkshire!!
If this is true a great sportsman will be sorely missed.

Jesus! That's tragic. I didn't believe it until I switched on Sky News but they are saying that they can't confirm anything until later today! |

I´m going through El Pais and it´s been confirmed. McRae died as well as his little son who was only 5 yrs old, and two other people, one adult and another child. The helicopter was driven by McRae himself. This is according to McRae´s agent.
Really sad news. |

This is a huge tragedy which will hit the rallying world very hard. He was a great guy and an amazing driver. His poor wife though, son and husband both gone together.
On a more tactless note, British wrc champions don'tseem to be doing very well, do they? There have been only two (at least in recent years) and they've both died before they were 40. It's a terrible shock for everyone. |

RIP
One of my earliest heroes, up there alongside McCoist and Hastings. An absolute legend and by all accounts a brilliant guy. A class act all round and an absolute credit to his country.
