So had I. And I'm still not sure of what it is.
For example I'm wearing a top that gathers under breasts and flows from there. Is that peplum too?

I agree. That is just empire waisted.
I tried to find a pic, but the only ones I can find where I am wearing that shirt, I have it belted, and then you can't tell it has a peplum. |
