Well, this is getting a bit nostalgic now.
I was 14 years old, getting ready for school in front of the TV when “Why Does It Always Rain on Me?” came on. I remember sitting down on the floor, completely mesmerized. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen, and the song stayed in my head for the rest of the day.
That weekend, I went out and bought the cassette. I must have played it hundreds of times and learned every single lyric by heart.
Back then, I could never have imagined that one day I would actually meet the band. A teenage girl from Turkey would never have dreamed of travelling to other countries to see them live, let alone meeting them in person.
Looking back now, I feel incredibly lucky.

My mate somehow got tickets to see Oasis (minus Noel) in The Point Theatre in Dublin back in ’97 and as I wasn’t allowed to sleep out all night in the queue I missed out. When I asked him all about it and who the support band where he said “Some band called TraNis from Scotland”

That sent me down a rabbit hole of finding out who this was as whoever Noel picked as support was always worth a listen. Found a copy of Good Feeling and obsessed over it, still to this day think Funny Thing is up there with the best song Fran has written.
Then it was onto eBay to get every possible CD going. The More Than Us EPs are just spectacular.

Ahhhh you were then supposed to see Travis before Oasis, epic!
and I agree with you on Funny Thing. Good Feeling is such an amazing album

Yeah and it was the one where Noel flew solo but alas. If I remember correctly Noel used to use AIWTDIR backstage to tune up his guitar and one night Fran and the boys said just come out and play it with us and it made the More Than Us EP and a awesome YouTube video.

I remember this moment vividly. I was listening to the UK Chart Show on the radio and I came on a song partway through; it was Writing to Reach You, so it would have been 1999. I was mesmerised. At the end of the song, the radio host didn’t say what the song was or who it was by. So I waited until the next Sunday for the chart show, ready with my cassette tape in my ghetto blaster to record it and as soon as the song struck up, I recognised it and hit record. Been hooked on Travis ever since.

WTRY is my fav song from that album and back then we did not have Shazam so had to wait and pray that same songs would come on TV or radio again 🙂

It was the year 2000. I was driving home late from a night at The Hub (hipster cafe in Fullerton, CA). Rodney on The ROQ played some tracks from the band who would be opening for Oasis at the Universal Amphitheater. I fell in love with the music during a trip to Norway in 2003. My friends and I just left Lillehammer and as we drove away “Sing” came on the radio. The music coupled with the scenery of vast picturesque landscapes, fjords, waterfalls…it was serene and beautiful harmony. Never thought twice about fandom from that point forward.

I loooove how songs remind us of places, times and of course memories, and I can imagine how Sing could be a great song for the Norway scenery!

I didn’t get into them until the end of last year. Wish I’d found their music earlier.

I went to see Beth Orton at the Wedgewood Rooms in January 97. Travis were the support. I was really impressed and had a chat with Fran after the set whilst he put away his guitar cables etc ( can you imagine) Anyway, we had a chat and he signed the set list. I’ve been a fan ever since.

I was about 7 and my dad had just discovered them. He showed me their cover of ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’ and, at the time, it was blasphemy to little 2nd-grader me. My dad lovingly teased me for not appreciating good music. He then showed me their music videos and the rest was history. By the time I was in middle school, I was completely converted! So grateful to my dad and the bond we share over our love of Travis!

Of course I heard „Why does it always rain on me“ on the radio but I was too young to realise it. For me it was because of the boy I liked back then. He had in his Whatsappstatus „happy to hang around“ and it was the beginning for me. I couldn’t get into his heart but I was happy to discover Travis❤️

if that boy meant the song by his whatsapp status he was a catch 😀 😀

Cover of hit me baby one more time. 2001 during art class. I had borrowed my classmates discman and couldn’t stop listening. Something had touched me. Went back home and downloaded song by song on Napster. That’s how I got to know THE MAN WHO. Probably still my favorite album ever

It was 2000. I was 13, in secondary school, and I used to set the TV as alarm clock to get up early for school. TV was in a different room, so the trick was that I had to get up and go there to turn it off, haha – I never got late to school! Anyhow, one time there was this song I’d never heard on MTV and I really liked it – it was WDIAROM, and it was the video too. I saw a lad running in a “skirt” (my knowledge about Scottish culture was none at that time), I think to myself “what is this? I like it!”. I didn’t start to actively look more of their songs up until Sing was out, I think.

I think, Sing was the first song I heard. I was like wow, had not really heard anything like that before.
Their music was so unique, the combination of the instruments and that banjo, the intro, was just perfect.
I am glad their have carried their signature sound all through these years and haven’t become like the coldplay of today.
Coldplay and travis were my two favourites, but coldplay somehow lost that sound. They are so into techno and pop kind of music these past few years.

I remember hearing the singles from the first album on the radio (I’m pretty sure I bought Happy on CD single), but the first time I noticed them properly was at the Bude Surf and Rock festival in the Summer of 1998, and they never got rid of me after that!

Back in 2019, I was 15 years old, my uncle gave me an Oasis vinyl to start my collection (What’s the Story Morning Glory? to be specific) and then he asked me: have you listened to Travis? Do you know them? Tbh I had no idea what he was talking about. He had a record collection as well and he showed me a few of… The Man Who was there! I asked him to lend me the record to give a listen, and the first song was WDIAROM. I found them quite nice, and by now, I love them and don’t spend a single day without listen to Travis♡
