Hi Travis friends. I’m still kinda new here – hope that’s okay 🙈
Since Fran sometimes recommends movies or books.I thought we could share what we’ve been watching, reading or playing lately? (Not music this time – just to keep it Travis-themed)
I’ve only been a fan for 2 years (feels longer 🐈⬛). Would love to discover things through your eyes.
Also, I’m not very good at using this board and English yet, so I might not reply straight away – hope that’s alright.
Aye, thanks for having me.

I’ve already watched Paris, Texas (of course 🐈⬛).
Taxi Driver is on my list – planning to watch it soon.
Right now I‘m watching The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and guess what? The main actor Ben Stiller – he’s the same guy from the Closer music video!
(I don‘t watch many Western films, so I only just realised this.)👾

The other day I saw the House Of Spirit series on Amazon Prime Video! Yes, the same as Isabel Allende’s book❤️ I highly recommend it.
Now, I’m trying to write a fiction book about music! Let’s see how it goes…
Meanwhile, I’m reading the Keane’s book 🙉

And good luck with your own book– that’s amazing.Hope it all goes wonderfully! ✨
And Keane – I’ve actually been listening to them a lot lately too. 😸

I recommend Two Brothers by Ben Elton. It’s the only book I’ve read that I didn’t want it to end.

I looked up Two Brothers – it sounds really interesting. And I also noticed that the author, Ben Elton, was one of the writers behind Blackadder – I didn‘t know that. What a crossover. Thanks for sharing something so unique.

Thank you so much for the recommendations, Neil! I really appreciate it.
I’ve heard of Invasion of the Bodysnatchers but never watched it – now I’m very curious. And Shoe Dog sounds like a really inspiring read. As for the games… I have to admit I’m too young for the ZX Spectrum era, but Scrabble is definitely a classic 😄
Thanks again for taking the time to reply – it means a lot to a new fan like me.
Wishing you and the band all the best. 🖤

That’s so nice that you looked it up. It means a lot. If you want to DM me your postal address then I’m happy to send you a copy. I never expected that I would like anything by Ben Elton due to his persona on things like Have I got News for You, but the book is amazing. I just wanted to continue following the lead characters for years upon years.

I Came in Through the Bathroom Window
Not a film but a mini series: Mussolini: Son of the Century. Directed by Joe Wright (brilliant), starring Luca Marinelli (superb performance), music score by Tom Rowlands of The Chemical Brothers (perfectly fitting, it contributes to build that Futurism atmosphere). It’s utterly amazing, probably the best thing I’ve watched in the last decade or so.

Thanks for the recommendation! I looked up “Mussolini: Son of the Century” on our rating site (Douban) – it actually has very high scores there. Sounds really interesting. I’ve added it to my watchlist. Appreciate you sharing this! 🙂

For a movie, I recommend Detachment. For a book, I’d recommend Milan Kundera’s The Unbearable Lightness of Being — I found it really interesting. For a game, I recommend Disco Elysium.
ps:单独用中文再给你推荐电影《里斯本丸沉没》,前段时间上映的《给阿嬷的情书》也还不错😼

Yesterday I tried to post and leave some links from youtube of movie trailers yet the post never apeared ….I’m assuming because how I placed the links ..How do you post links or photos ?
My film recommendations
The Red suitcase – from Nepal . A story of life for families of overseas workers
A yak in the classroom – from Bhutan. A story of a teacher in a remote village
The Fighter – From South Korea . A story of a female refugee from North Korea living in the ROK who decides to become a boxer
100 Yen Love -from Japan .Another story of a woman who becomes a boxer
The Secret Lives of Bill Bartell – From the US . A documentary of a guy from the early punk rock days who was everywhere . I had a strong tie to this since I was very punk rock in the 80’s and always saw him referenced by many in the Redd Kross world .
It came from Aquarius . Another documentary about a record store in San Francisco that was the place way back to find anything obscure before Amoeba records came on the scene

Hi @Jorge_E_aka_ricv64
Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed post – and for recommending five films! I really appreciate that. 😊To be honest, I’m not sure how to post links or images properly on this board either. Maybe it’s easier to just describe things in words, like you did. That works perfectly.
I’ve heard of 100 Yen Love (the one with Ando Sakura) – I know the title but haven’t watched it yet. The other four films you mentioned are completely new to me, so I’ve added all of them to my watchlist. Thanks again for sharing!😸

Here are a few more
Tigers are not afraid . From Mexico . A magic realist childlike take on the violence from the cartels . I loved it
Untamed- From Mexico . A closeted man deals with his crush on his brother in law while his wife tries to deal with him . It also veers into sci fi with a not so benevolent alien .Very graphic sex warning
The Shoplifters – From Japan . Stars same women from 100 yen love in a story of a family resorting to shoplifting to get by
The rest are from Korea
Hope – A family tries to comfort their child after she is raped .. Very tough movie
A man in love- A low level gangster finds he has a terminal illness and fall in love
A brand new life – A child’s father drops her off in a orphanage
Oasis – A mentally challenged man falls in love with a disabled woman . Some is very tough to watch but for me ended with hope
Barbie- the villain of the season for me . A man adopts a child for nefarious plans

Hey, Ric! Great recommendations!
I’ve only watched The Shoplifters and I loved it. I like how portrays people who are just surviving in this hard, cold world.
I already added Tigers are not afraid to my list, for what I’ve read is how horror and violence surround Mexican’s, especially children’s, lifes.
About Untamed, I haven’t watched it either, but be aware cause Amat Escalante’s (the director) films are not easy to digest for some people.
I’ll look up the Korean films too.

Hello and Gd Evening – I watched a Danish Film the other night I had been meaning to watch for ages – ‘The promised land’ – Mads Mikkelson stars plus a great supporting cast – a brutal story of desperation to succeed in total adversity – not easy viewing by any means but visually stunning. Nx

Hey, Neil. Mads Mikkelson is such a great actor, he offers yet another brilliant performance in the film Druk/Another Round. If you haven’t watched it, I absolutely recommend it.

Hi! For a book I recommend the ‘Thursday Next’ series by Jasper Fforde. The first book is called ‘The Eyre Affair’ it’s a light hearted fantasy series about a detective who can travel into books, and has to as Jane Eyre has been kidnapped from her own book. It is very fun and whimsical and all the books are great.
For a movie I’m going to throw out a couple of kiwi ones, ‘Whale Rider’ and ‘The Hunt for the Wilderpeople’
Whale Rider is a very emotional story about a young girl trying to prove her worth to her grandfather
Wilderpeople is a bit more lighthearted about a boy and his adoptive father who go on the run in the bush of NZ so that the government doesn’t shove the kid into foster care. It’s based on a book by a New Zealand author.-

Thanks! The book series sounds so fun – a detective inside books? Brilliant. And I’ve seen Whale Rider recommended before. Adding these to my list!
