On a total high tonight. Fucking awesome gig in Aberdeen. Totally kick ass. Crowd had a really good energy, much better than usual for Aberdeen. Edinburgh lot, and those wanting to be surprised later in the tour, please don't look down! Setlist was (roughly)
Chinese Blues
J. Smith
Sing
Selfish Jean
Writing to Reach You
Re-Offender
Beautiful Occupation
Something Anything
Long Way Down
Love Will Come Through
Closer
Driftwood
Last Words
All I Want to Do Is Rock
Good Feeling
Flowers in the Window
Song to Self
Turn
Encore:
I Kissed A Girl (Cover)!
Falling Down
Tied to the 90's
Why Does It Always Rain On Me
Lets get the obvious highlights out the way - Tied to the 90's. Fuck me! How good was it to hear that again?! HEY! And the guys looked like they had really good fun with it too.
I kissed a girl was genius, I'm really glad it got played. Crowd really fed off it.
But to the good stuff - What amazed me, really bowled me over, and what was just downright fucking fantastic was how great the new material sounded sat next to the old. I mean it just sounded fresh, vibrant, LOUD!, new, argh, I don't have a vocabluary enough to describe it. Something Anything and Long Way Down were ridiculously good live. Song to Self blew almost every other song out of the water, no joke. The intro, the chorus. That song should be played with something like 100,000 people to hear it with the grand canyon as it's backdrop, it's just so epic. The band already seem really comfortable with the new material and boy did it show. Chinese Blues & J Smith is a belter of an opener for a gig, especially after the Network intro.
Fuck me, I'm off to bed. I need some sleep. What a show. |

Last few things
- I missed out Side up there
- I can't stress enough how great the new material sounds live. It needs to be heard live and loud.
- Just a quick thanks to Fran for spending a little time with me this afternoon. It meant a lot and was really nice to see you again. |

The only thing I would change is putting "As You Are" back in the set. That song is just....perfection. |
