"Blow" in this case means hit. "To take the blow" means to be able to withstand being hit. It can be an emotional blow, like having your feelings deeply hurt, or it can be a physical blow like being hit in a fight.
Examples:
Joe's girlfriend broke up with him in an e-mail and moved to Paris with her driving instructor. Joe was able to take the emotional blow and began dating an international fashion model.
Joe took a blow to the face while trying to break up a fight in the pub.

You never heard of Joe Blow? And hey, he got an international fashion model out of the deal, so why feel sorry for him? |

I've heard of Joe Blow and figured he inspired you but I still feel bad for the guy. Model aside, he still got his heartbroken. And then he got punched in a bar!! Did this have to do with the model??
And yes Kristy, I will get you a pony* if this happens to you!!

thanks Anne. I think i need a boyfriend first inorder to have him run off with the driving instructor. Damn you stupid boys of the world
I bet the punching totally had to do with the model. They create drama wherever they go. |
