Got one of my wisdom teeth removed yesterday and glad to say that it did not hurt the least bit. Why have I heard som many bad stories about how much it would hurt? |

not to freak you out, but mine hurt way more 3 days after surgery than the first couple of days. Really bad pain for a week or so. And then that stopped but i couldnt open my mouth wider than like an inch. And then 2 weeks later my face re-swelled (i barely swelled at the begining...this was a lot more) and when that went down i was all better.
But ive never heard anyone else having that happen. I think im just crazy!
And i got way too much joy out of the little syringe you get to spray water into the spot where your tooth was too clean it out. It was very satisfying to see all the goo cleared out of there. Okay, its crazy, im a nutter. |

I think it's different for everybody but yes I'd wait a few days before I got too excited about how much it didn't hurt.
For me it wasn't too too bad. Swelling and pain but it was manageable.
I didn't enjoy having to squirt water to clean out my holes. I feel icked out thinking about it even now. |

i purposely avoided the term "holes" bc it sounds kinda...wrong.
I dont even think i actually needed them out. They werent causing me trouble and i dont think had even moved in years (they were below the gums) but since i had braces as a kid and stuff, they said it was better in case they one day start growing again and started screwing up all that my parents paid for. And it wasnt urgent, they said sometime in the next 5 years, but it was before my last year as a student so i did it before my health benefits under my parents ran out. I think bc they were so far buried in gum land, it was a worse recovery. Oh, there was a puppy in the recovery bed though! She was cute.
I remember playing hockey about 10 days later and all i had eaten was soup and mashed potatoes the whole time and i felt sooo weak. |

You are lucky! I'm glad it was a painless experience for you. In my case, I got my wisdom teeth surgically removed. A lot of times the gums can get infected if they don't heel properly. This happened to me. My whole face got swollen. I looked like a chipmunk with purple cheeks! It was so painful I had to go back and the doctor opened my stitches where one of the teeth had been removed and got all the infected gross stuff out.

i avoided going back because i didnt want them to say i had dry sockets (or whatever its called when the blood clot falls out and it isnt healing right) and just dealt with the horrid pain. Im a bad patient.
a friend had it done just under a local, and was awake while they yanked the teeth out. Just watching that would freak me out!! I look the being knocked out option. |

Three of mine were essentially sideways. The fourth was an example of my freakish medical nature. It was in a cyst within my sinus cavity. So a few weeks after the wisdom tooth thing I had to have surgery to get that out.
That's probably why the wisdom tooth surgery seems like nothing now. Because that was so much worse. Ugh. |
