Who is buying the vinyl LP version of 'Ode' then?
I'm totally in 2 minds about what to do - I've got right back into LP's after getting the J Smith 10", and so the new album on LP would be great because all the artwork is loads more impressive when its bigger, but I just know that because this is gonna be a rockier album, I'm going to want to listen to it in the car at the highest possible volume setting!
Its a pity they didn't do some kind of deal in the store - where you pay a bit more for the LP(Maybe £16-17?), but then you get a free download of the album thrown in as well.
Quite like the idea of having a whole load of Travis LP's for my kids to look through when they're grown up, like I used to with my Dad's Led Zep LP's! |

Both!
I know I'll probably be listening to the cd much more for convinience's sake, but at the same time I quite fancy having the vinyl version, too. Especially after the J. Smith ep, it got me more interested on vinyl, again.
The most common listening environment for me is either on my computer or iPod, so the vinyl and even the cd will be for kind of Sunday listening. |

Because finances dictate. Im sure if I said to Fran, " eh, sure ill buy the album, but it stops me buying a bus pass to get to my work for the week" Im pretty sure hed say buy the bus pass.
Im not for ripping off anybody, but at least im being honest. Furthermore, im sure the boys aint pennyless. They live a more comfortable life than me, thats for sure.
Sorry if it looks like im being a prick, but at least im being honest. |

I appreciate your honesty though its slightly disappointing but it's ok.
I wouldn't worry about what the band, or certainly Andy thinks. I was watching an interview last night and Andy was very positive over getting music however you can. Just get music. He wouldn't care! Haha. |

Its a difficult one really - my mate has got this site where he goes on and can literally burn any album onto CD for free. Although I'm fairly skint, I still end up buying the albums, not really because I want to give the band more money but so I get all the artwork and sleeve notes & stuff. Sounds a bit daft really I spose when I could get it for nothing, but it doesn't feel the same having a copied CD in a blank case |

I would buy most albums anyway because I'd feel like I was stealing otherwise. Fair enough if you really can't afford it, but it shouldn't be an excuse to get loads of albums free. Thanks for being honest!
I'm getting the CD, the vinyl is pretty expensive for something that I probably would play once or twice at most. |

Cheers for leveling with me guys or gals, and understanding where im coming from.
I hate to rattle the cages further though and say that i very rarely pay for music, and i do download more than a few albums over a year, not over 15 or 20 though. Mind u, i do save up and go see them live whenever the album is toured so i suppose that kinda evens it up eh!!
For me though, music shouldnt be about making money, it should be about sharing music with one another globally. That was put into good practice recenlty with Radiohead.
I say weed out the money making sham artists, and give us more like Travis.
OOOOHHHHH Controversial, respond boardies... I welcome the debate.

Spread the food! Spread the holidays to Barbados! Come on everyone, let's go, it's all free! :)
Bands put a lot of effort into making their music. I feel its only right that we pay for it. That's just what i think. :) |

If the artists themselves give music out for free, why not, it's their decision (like Radiohead). But don't forget, music is their job and source of income, and IMHO those websites giving music out for free are stealing from the artists.
I'm not totally innocent of ever downloading music from gray sources, but usually it's only if that's the only way to get it. Often I buy the same stuff later, if I can find it.
How do you feel about sharing your professional skills for free? Let's say taxis should be free, so that if you take a taxi, you don't have to pay the driver. Not much fun, if you're a taxi driver.
I follow the typographical world quite a lot, and for them people spreading fonts for free is a huge problem. Imagine spending 3-6 years designing a font that is then sold for some reasonably small sum, let's say 30 euros, only to find out that your font is available for free all over the place. |

I agree. You wouldn't walk into an art gallery without paying because you think art should be free to look at because they have to buy/hire the pictures, hire staff and keep the building in good shape. Similarly, musicians have a lot of overheads with recording and so most can't give away music.
I think that if you can't afford it, you should largely go without, although as someone with enough money to get what I want, I don't pretend to know how hard this could be. Good for you for going to the gigs though!
I'm not especially concerned if people want to try to make a lot of money from music, if the price is too high I won't buy it. I buy a lot of CDs in sales, so you can get good deals if you wait :) |

Not a fan of illegal downloading, think ill try and buy both vinyl and cd. Vinyl for prosperity and cd for car and firing on my itunes. I prefer to have the physical cd anyway coz ive hundreds of cds and like the inlay and all that jazz. Plus im pretty sure you could get it from amazon or tescos for less than a tenner, bargain and your not ripping off the industry and travis. Sure they're rich but they've worked bloody hard and provided me and everyone with a load of entertainment! |
