So, I didn't see a thread like this but I think its a really important thing to have on the forum since we're in such a wasteful era. I'm a member at our school's Residence Hall Association, and we do an event where we have different halls save as much energy as they can and we always look for new ideas to share. Some include...
-Going to study at public places so you can save lighting energy.
-Carpooling with other people to go home on the holidays or even just to go shopping at the supermarket
-Unplugging anything unused when out of the room, even things that are plugged in when they are turned off (they actually still have a phantom usage of energy)
-Using water only when needed when showering or whatever
-Turning down room temperature by one degree
-Using a slightly higher temperature for the fridge
-Using florescent lights
-Not overcharging your hand-held electronics (every hour of charging your iPod apparently sets of carbon emission)
-Stairs instead of elevators (u lose weight! lol)
I think I'm out of brain juice, so anyway, I'm wondering what other people do that to reduce and reuse. Hope this will be a good and interesting discussion thread. =D |

The earth changed temperatures before we had all this stuff. |

Well, the argument isn't about whether you have to be a evangelist for environmentalism movement or not, its just about making better choices, i'm sorry if my first post mislead you lol |

I did some fair amount of Googling, and heres some more that I found:
-Doing laundry in Full loads, Quote: Choose a front loading washing machine. Not only does a front loading washing machine save water, it saves energy as well. It uses about 40% less water and about 50% less energy.
-Taking your laundry out of the dryer a little bit earlier than the machine's predicted time (as they tend to fry up clothing sometimes, and 60 minutes is overkill for your favorite clothing)
-Keeping curtains and drapes closed to trap light indoors during night, as well as keeping heat and letting the curtains open in the day time to allow solar energy into the room during the winter time
-Quote: Extending cooking times with a slow cooker not only lets flavours mingle better, but also reduces energy use and chances of scorching.
-Showers instead of baths, Quote: A five-minute shower uses about half as much water as a bath.
-Try to use fans instead of the air conditioner, its not very good to be under the air con all day anyway
-Plants! Even a small amount of low-maintenance cactus can help you have better air in your home, they look nice and can bring peace of mind =]
more later folks! |

Whether you believe in Global Warming or not, it’s still important to be environmentally conscious to not only save money on energy costs, but also because it’ll be better for everyone’s health. I don’t understand how anyone can be against “saving the planet.” Nobody wants to walk around in a dirty, polluted city.

i try to do what i can...all appliances and things we buy now are energy efficient, when i can i leave my car and walk (next car will be a hybrid..i wanted one this time but...issues), we have a water cooler at work so we stop individual bottle use by everyone on a daily basis, i recycle and compost as much as i can, energy efficent lightbulbs, etc etc. If everyone does they part hopefully the earth wont implode upon us/i would have to cough up a lung filled with smoke and smog |

We all live under the same sky
We all will live, we all will die

I've noticed that while I live in India I use a lot less electricity than I do while I'm not, the prime reason being that we pay for electricity here :| Apart from that, energy efficient bulbs, no air-conditioning, washing dishes by hand, air-drying clothes and limited hot water(only for showers, that too) really cuts down energy consumption. I guess some of these can be applied elsewhere too... |
