1 J. Smith
2 Something Anything

3 Song To Self (radio single) (fran said in the NY mix blog)
4 Last Words (fran said in the NY mix blog)
5 Friends (a masterpiece, my fav, a classic)

well, Chinese Blues and Long Way Down also could be the 5 single.

what do you think?

I don't think they are going to release 5 singles from the new album. Fran said recently in an interview that 2-3 singles from an album is enough. In his blogs he mentioned Song to Self and Last Words as possible singles, so my guess is that they'll release those two after Something Anything.

Let's wait 'til we actually hear them properly before we make a real judgement. J Smith wasn't a single.

Friends is not a classic, it would be a terrible single. Don't want to be negative about the new album but following on from the recent thread about songs we dislike, I believe Friends might be added to that list for me. But let's wait and see. :)

On live listens, Long Way Down would be a great single. :)

"Quite Free" seems to be a great single (I think it unites classic Travis melody and the fresh sound (an accordion is used in it if I'm not mistaken)) :)

Why do we have to do this with every album? Can we not just wait and see what happens rather than try and predict everything?

Same thing happened this time last year. Closer wasn't even properly released and it was all 'what's going to be the next single after the single after Closer??'

Well to be fair, Selfish Jean was a dead cert, so we had to go further to make it challenging :)

I'd like to see them do a couple of singles with a bit of promo and then slide back into obscurity and write some more great music :D
