I just spent a whole week in West Yorkshire, only used Manchester for flying in and out. Several instances of fish & chips for the rest of the family (no fish for me, I'm allergic) and we took kids to a pub ( a food one might I add). Leeds was interesting, managed to buy two cds, Paul Heaton's new "The Cross Eyed Rambler" and Kaiser Chiefs' older "Yours Truly, Angry Mob", latter from a sales pile. I haven't had a chance to get to know them probably to comment, yet.
I'm glad and surprised to report that the weather was unusually warm and rain free, a wee bit muggy, though. Seen plenty of animals, bunnies, guinea pigs, a mouse, snails, birds, a frog and lot of cats and dogs…
Not a bad holiday, all in all. Unfortunately work demands my attention immediately.

Glad to hear you had a good time Mili!
Ok, so Leeds was "interesting"....please elaborate, I've never been there myself but am going to be (hopefully) working up there soon and living between Leeds and York!

My in-laws live in West Yorkshire, so it's sort of holiday when we go there to see them. Raspberry picking, walks, tea and sherry are part of the daily routine. Throw in Countdown and cricket for entertainment.

Leeds equals shopping, mainly for the kids these days. Especially the pre-teeny girl had a field day. What's with the girls with fur lined Ugg boots and tiny shorts/skirt and bare legs in + 23 °C? Plenty of them in Leeds. I noticed the old Allders building was finally under some sort of renovation.

Oh, Laura, Leeds is the London of the North, as they say… I've only been to York once, and that was about 15 years ago. Lovely place. Other favourite towns in the area are Skipton and Harrogate.

As usual we stocked up on teabags (you can't get those big stringless ones for teapots here) and Marmite at Tesco's. Vinegar stocks were still ok.

Raspberry picking in West Yorkshire? Weren't they covered in soot? ;-)

The Allders building is being renovated, no longer to be Allders as I understand but will remain "the Allders building" for a long time yet. I think it's being split up into different shops/offices/apartments etc. Sad, really. It had a lovely grand old staircase.

Leeds = the fastest growing city in the north! Bit silly though. They keep building office blocks (works of art, some of 'em) but there aren't enough businesses wanting to move into them, so they remain empty for a long time.

Glad you got some decent weather while you were in Yorkieland :)
