The country legend reinterprets his favourite tunes.
Glen Campbell covers Travis, Green Day, Foo Fighters on new album
Glen Campbell has announced that he will release an album of cover songs by some of his favourite artists including Travis, Foo Fighters, U2 and Green Day.
'Meet Glen Campbell' is due out in the US on August 19, a week ahead of its UK release on August 25, and features 10 tracks that have "struck a personal and musical chord" and "moved and inspired" the country music icon.
Campbell also covers songs by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, The Replacements, Velvet Underground, Jackson Brown and John Lennon on the new album. He has "reinterpreted and re-imagined both older and contemporary songs with his own signature vocal and guitar arrangements," according to a statement.
The album tracklisting is:
'Sing' - Travis
'Walls' - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
'Angel Dream' - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
'Times Like These' - Foo Fighters
'These Days' - Jackson Browne
'Sadly Beautiful' - The Replacements
'All I Want Is You' - U2
'Jesus' - Velvet Underground
'Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life)' - Green Day
'Grow Old With Me' - John Lennon
Hmmm, it'll be interesting to hear Glen Campbell's version of Sing. Travis have performed his song "Wichita Lineman" live several times in the past. I wonder what Fran thinks about this. At a guess, I'd say he'd be well pleased at the compliment.
*edit* - I found this on YouTube |

This cover is hideous. But in the mean time funny too. I wonder if there is a video clip and a cake fight...
Travis' Wichita Lineman version is miles better by the way. |

ewwwww.
People covering Travis doesn't sit right with me. It's about more than the music, it's about meanings, the fact the song was written by the person performing it for a reason. These stupid X-Factor/McFly/Westlife type chumps just releasing karaoke covers makes me glad that - so far - none of them have covered anything I really like because I'd probably vomit. Or just sit in a corner twitching uncontrollably. hehe.
oh yeah PS - this is shit. :) |

Hmm, well at least he's not stuck in the past and is covering current stuff. As for Sing, it sounds like he's amping the country side with it being a banjo. Can't compare to the original tho. |

I think it's pretty fantastic that Glen Campbell is covering Sing and lots of those other songs as well. Although I agree that songs generally have more meaning when performed by whoever wrote them, sometimes a different interpretation brings a cool new vibe. Rock on, Glen! |

Sounds like a good album, doubt sing will be better but its always good to hear a different interpretation of songs! Craziest covers ive ever heard were Mark Kozelek (red house painters, sun kill moon) covering modest mouse songs, the covers are unrecognizable!! |
