Had my first cider for years last night at a BBQ - thanks to LG I decided to try it and it was Goooooooood. Strongbow not so good (too atificially sweet) but then Magner's which was lovely. What have I been missing out on? What should I try next?

KOPPARBERG!

But if you said about that Strongbow being too articifically sweet you maaay not like it... But I reckon it's more like pear juice.

Brothers pear cider is beautiful as well. Especially out of paper cups at a festival :D

Koppaberg, though very sweet comes in a range of flavours, Appler, Pear & Mixed Fruit.

Magners/Bulmers should be served in a pint bottle with a pint glass full to the brim with ice on a hot summer day/evening in a beer garden for best effect.

Stay away from the "white" ciders... stuff like Pulse and White Lightning you can usually tell, as they are given fancy names like above and cost about £2 for about 10 gallons.

I quite like some of the organic stuff, it's easier on the hangovers. Try getting some Traditional Scrumpy from Somerset/Devon area. Some of it still has big lumps of apple floating around in it. Mighty Stuff I tell thee.

Aspall's is shit. That was one pint of cider I just couldn't finish :( But it comes in a mixed berries flavour or something not far off from that, am wanting to give that a try.

I can't drink more than one of these, they're that sugary sweet.

Mmm I love em, but they don't seem to get me pissed as quick as good ol Strongbow! <3

Thanks for that - I'm off out again tonight so will see what's being served. I can cope will sweet if it's a fruity sweetness not that sacarin aftertaste that Strongbow definately has.

I really fancy the idea of apple bits (scrumpy style) Dubz. Not sure that will be on offer tonight. It tends to be a wine and whiskey do.

Any I should truely avoid?

Unless drinking by the canal, out of a brown paper bag while smelling and giving menacing looks to anyone within your vicinity.

I have a canal. I might try it some day.
