Haha!!!

I'm a bit of a microscope geek...did you know the some of the first ones looked like this?

I like the pretty pattern on the side!

i knew about strange shapes but never seen one like this, very classy!
do you use a microscope for your job? or just you like them?
i'm using one for my masterthesis (only if it worked...) it is a SNOM

Yeah, I do! i use a slightly older model of this....

but I'm not over-keen on it...I used to use one like this

and it was much nicer!!

So what exactly have you been using a microscope for?

well it is for scanning the outcoming electro magnetic field from an optical fiber, and i am supposed to do a near field scanning (SNOM = Scanning Near-field Optical Microscope)
the probe is a pointed standard fiber with a 100-200 nm resolution, it depends on the making process ( a chemical etching process that we do in our labs)
it was a previous masterthesis project and it's not been working for about one year and nothing seems to work...
and you what do you use it for?

urgh, that sounds extremely complicated, I don't know anything about that sort of microscope! I work in a Cytology lab so basically I'm looking for abnormal squamous cells...quite interesting some times but most of the time just tedious!!

at least you don't have to deal with the dismal electronics!

I'm using several microscopes for my MSc, among them a confocal microscope and a flourescence microscope.
I <3 microscopes haha
