I was trying to imagine the new album would look like. And this is how it does for me:
Kind of like a studio/living room of and old man with the personality of Hannibal Lecter LOL, im not trying to say J. Smith seems to be a cannibal. But you know…a room with a lot of books, some cups of coffee, some elegant and very antique furniture, maybe some instruments all over the place, and the room a little bit messy also.
I was looking for a picture with such things and this one came out. Its not exactly what I have on mind but its pretty close. Obviously, as you can see, im not a designer haha i just added the title and that was it
So, how do you guys picture the artwork? You don’t necessarily need to make yours, with thedescription would be fine.

Judging by the other album cover's it will probably have the band featuring on the artwork

I've said a few times I think it'll be the first without the band. I think it'll be hand drawn. I think it would go well with the album's music.
I hope Fran will show us what he was drawing soon... Fran?...

Hey everyone, I hope it's pretty minimalist too, with good scenery on, I took a photo when I was in Scarborough which I really liked of this old fahioned cobbled walkway, near to Whitby Abbey and I decided to make a version of what I'd like it to be like, I edited my photo a bit, wrote on the title and got the Travis logo on it, also if the band are going to be on it I'd have them sat on the steps down near the end of the cobbled walkway, maybe have Fran playing a guitar and the others talking or something? Also love the idea of this thread, nice one thinking it up heich, I love album artwork and stuff like that. Also love your idea for the cover, I had a similar idea but thought I'd have it as sort of old fashioned looking, maybe cobbles, a walk way where J.Smith walks down every morning for his newspaper, the house in the corner may even be his house? I also imagine him living a simple life, down near the harbour maybe, somewhere away from the hustle and bustle of the city, more rural and nature based. The edits I used on the photo were to take away all bright colours, make it look simplistic and I tried to age it a little with very faint lines and scratches. Anyway here's what I made:

I think J Smith must live in a city, the countryside is too personal, everyone knows each other. He needs to live in a block of flats and not know his neighbours and stand at the train station with the same people everyday, but not knowing who they are. I like your different view though, I'd never thought about it that way. |

Heich, I like your idea of J. Smith's room. And, TheInvisibleBoy, that's a beautiful picture you took!
I think that Fran's artwork might be the cover since he mentioned it in his studio blog. Can't wait to see it! Maybe the wings or those hands praying? Although, I'd still love to see the band on the cover...or maybe on the reverse side. Jesusaremus, your idea of a crowded city street would be cool if the band was somehow hidden in the crowd...everyone walking in one direction away from the camera, but the bands heads turned around so you can sorta pick them out if you look hard enough. |

| Could be the praying hands but I think the wings because he talks about being a couple of millimetres out and having to start again. Trying to be symmetrical you see. ;) I think the praying hands will be on there too though. |

This reminds me of this Beatles photo, the one that's inside that 1967-1970 album, the blue one. I've been looking for it but I only found this one, which looks not so good. It's a beautiful photo, but it doesn't show here xD:
It could be something like that but without the fence, Travis instead of The Beatles and more people all walking on a crowded city street?
I also think it will have the wings. And I think it will have the colour of the t-shirt they were selling at the gigs in february as a background colour. Or not... I liked the crowd idea too. |

So, out of curiousity, I did a search for "praying hands" on google
and to my amazement, the first one that came up on the search was this one that looks exactly like the one on the hymnsheets given out at the gigs.
It's on this page, about half way down, credit to Linda L. Schmidt
Maybe Fran was looking for "praying hands" for the artwork, and did the exact same search, as it's the number one image?

I think it makes sense to put all of these clues together when creating your own artwork for the album, using the same styles of colour and text. They wouldn't have created t-shirts that have no visual relevance to the forthcoming album.
I think that the picture of the cropped praying hands above could be placed onto the coloured background of the t-shirt (Light blue lines, dark red background), like the wings on the t-shirt.
Maybe someone could use the photos above to create a mock-up of this, cropping the angel wings as well accordingly, also adding your own extra visualisations. What do you think? |
