It just came on in the cafe i'm in and i forgot how bloody good a song it is. I can't believe anyone (including myself) ever doubted it around this time last year for being "too safe" a first single from the new album
Love it! |

I absolutely LOVE 'Closer'. It's very special to me.
It came out as I was going through a really sad time. It warmed me..it made me cry and remember..but it warmed my heart. It's such a cool earworm that song.
Franny has this really cool ability to touch hearts and souls like no one else sometimes.
Love+Peace,
Lianne

I heard Closer first time, performed live, on "Senkveld" which is a Norwegian talkshow. I hadn't gotten back into Travis at the time when Closer was released, I can therefore say I was fairly objective, and I didn't think Closer was as good as the singles from the previous albums. I remember thinking it was too repetetive and not as catchy as the Travis I used to love as younger.
Though after seeing them live in June there was no doubt in my mind that Travis still had it, and the song that really made it for me was My Eyes :-) I still believe they should have chosen it as their first single..
Aaanyways, I like Closer now :-) It's grown on me, and it's perfect for certain moods. Can't help but smile when it comes on in shops or restaurants etc. - we really do need to get closer these days :-) |

Closer is very dear to me. I just checked my computer iTunes, it's number one with 447 plays since mid-august last year (448 coming up as I write!). That doesn't include the times I've listened to the cd or my iPod (iPod and iTunes are not in sync, iPod is too small).
It's sort of unofficial "our song" for my husband and I, since we never really had one, but agreed last year that we both liked the song very much. |

Probably my favourite song off TBWNN.
Even so, it would've been interesting to see what would have happened if Selfish Jean was released as the first single instead. It may have had more impact with its extra oomph. |

Oh man, by far one of my favorites! It's absolutely beautiful, every aspect of the song.
Can you believe that I heard it playing in the GROCERY store once??? |
