Also, I don't really give a shit about the environment (I'm a selfish jean..), is that what it's for? Please explain what Earth Hour is, i am ignorant.

from wikipedia cos I am too lazy to type!-
"Earth Hour is an international event that asks households and businesses to turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour on the evening of 29 March at 8 pm local time until 9 pm to promote electricity conservation and thus lower carbon emissions. It may also help reduce light pollution, and in 2008, coincides with the beginning of National Dark Sky Week in the USA."

Hmmm. I don't see how me switching off my hifi helps the problem. Surely it's best to target factories and countries who aren't doing their bit in reducing carbon emissions. I don't really have any knowledge in this area, so forgive me if I don't really know what I'm talking about. |

Saving the world begins at home, he said, on his laptop, watching cable television. |

I can turn off the TV and stuff, but I was just thinking that I probably can't go without all the lights. (I do have mostly CF bulbs, though.) If we used flashlights, we're using batteries--bad for the environment. Rechargeable batteries need electricity to be recharged. If I light candles, that's a fire hazard with little ones running around. |

we turned off all the lights/electrical stuff for an hour and sat in the lounge with lots of candles. Then once the hour was up I went to get something from the bedroom and realised the light never got turned off in there - DOH!!! |

It was easy for me since I wasn't at home. I was off to see the local castle on fire.
It's wasn't really burning. It was the 200-year anniversary of a huge fire. About 20-30 years ago, the castle was rebuilt from the ruins and today it's a museum. The building is very dominating in the town centre here. Anyhow, a simulation of the fire was made, and a friend and I went to watch the impressive show.

I have no idea, but the street lights were out because of the earth hour thing, so the darkness made it even more impressive :o)
Right, I'm off to bed - goodnight! |
