So the grand old man steps down... About time, if you ask me. I don't really know what to make of him; was he a great man who fought for his ideas, or was he just a stubborn man who didn't want to face that this form of leadership was outdated?

From the BBC. You gotta love the name of that newspaper.

Seems that Bush wants to make the Cubans realise that freedom is good. I don't think all Cubans feel unfree as such, but I don't know much about it.

Maybe the paper is named after Fidel's wife :oP

Well, I have mixed feelings about Cuba and Fidel Castros' regime.
But one thing is for sure: if it's George Bush who will be in charge of helping the "people of Cuba realise the blessings of liberty", then it's a downfall (or a dégringolade, as Goosey teached me :oP).
His concept of liberty is rotten to the core. What can you expect from someone like him anyway.
And I hate it that the US have to be EVERYWHERE. I don't think the cuban people will easily forget all the damage that the US has been doing to Cuba for over a century, including the economic embargo that have been oppressing the country for decades - and which seems won't be lifted "any time soon". Blah. And they talk about "liberty". This hypocrisy makes me sick.

Depends on what kind of democracy, but I agree, it'd be the best choice. However, I don't think they'll be changing the political regime soon.

Hahaha, I have strong political beliefs, and "left-wing views" you could say. That's why I decided to study sociology instead of international relations :oP
