Kayte, after reading your PM about you finding your journals from your travels to Wroclaw, I asked my mom if she'd ever been there, since all I remember from that town is what I saw at the train station as we rolled through. She told me she just heard on the news that a few days ago they found a WWII bomb there!

Bomb found at Polish post office

14.02.2008 15:11
Employees and customers of one of the post offices in Wroclaw, south-western Poland, were evacuated when construction workers digging outside the building found an unexploded shell dating back to WW2.

Sappers arrived swiftly, and a special crane was needed to get out the unexploded shell from under the ground.

While this was being done, traffic in the vicinity of the post office was diverted.

The Polish Press Agency (PAP) established the unexploded shell is a 500-kilogram aerial bomb from WW2.

Oh, did she send it to you as well? I was cracking up when she said that the hotel had green carpet, green curtains, green walls. I guess some hotel rooms must have not changed much from 1990 to 2005! LOL!

Megg, I don't remember the name of the hotel. We were trying to save money and knew we wouldn't be spending that much time in the hotel so we found some dumpy little place. It was sorta far from Warsaw's Old Town, but within walking distance (a long walk), lol. The bathroom was all plastic (Mike referred to it as the Apollo capsule") and every time you took a shower the entire room would flood. You could also jump from the bathroom onto the bed, lol!

Ric, my Babcia (Grandma) is very religious, so before we left for the trip she gave me a rosary and that picture of Pope John Paul II to travel with us so that we'd be safe since we were gone a whole month, lol. She's so cute.

LOL, Ric!

Nikki, I've asked about the hotel, 'cause there are some of them right next to my building. It'd be funny if you have stayed in one of them!

That would be so funny! I'll ask Mike, but I'm not sure if he remembers either.

Wow, I'm late to this party, I see!

The hotel we stayed at was called Orbis. I know that because I always write my vacation journals on the hotel stationary. They also had these weird blankets (green, of course). They had a hole in the middle, a big hole. They stuffed the sheets inside the hole in the blanket. It was a strange set-up!

So, what was going on in Poland during that time? They kept our passports at the desk and there were either police or military people all over. It was a little frightening at times. I know the Berlin Wall had recently come down. Berlin was interesting at that time. Very happening.

Nikki, your tiny hotel sounds like one we stayed in while in Paris. No elevator and we were on the 4th floor. You open the door and there's the bed. There was about a foot between the bed and the wall. In the bathroom, our built-in hair dryer drew its air from the bathroom next door and vice-versa. I was wondering why it smelled like poo when I turned on the dryer, then we saw the vent in our room and figured it out. Ewwwwww!

Ric, your screenplay is getting very exciting.
