the boy with a cryptic name Posted Sun 10 Feb, 2008 5:54 PM |
Thanks for the info, although I'm not sure how true it is :)
I think the next thing to find out is: Who is J. Smith? I have a friend called Joe Smith, so I'm hoping it's that :)
EDIT: Try typing J Smith into google, and look at the first result. Hopefully it's not that!
EDIT 2: Have a look here!
EDIT 3: It might just be this guy's working title, but it might be the official working title: Coldplaying again |

This is from one of the Wedgewood Rooms reviews:
Jimmy_Jimmy wrote: According to Fran recording starts in about 2 weeks and will be recorded live. After hearing what I heard last night it should be very good. :)
And that's all I know about the new album :P
Glad to hear they've gone back to live recording.
Fran, I saw you over at the Video Showdown thread just now, surely you must be able to spill something to us? Even if it won't make any sense to us... yet ;-)
We need something to speculate upon! |

Oooo very interesting find!!
When I first saw that one of the new Travis songs was titled "J. Smith" I thought about how common a name it is. Maybe J. Smith is like "John Doe"...he's the "boy with no name" if you will. Maybe he represents "the man who" or that "invisible" person out there that could be any one of us. Kind of along the lines of it's about the music and not about the people behind it.
Or I could be completely wrong, LOL! |

The Amazon dude is pretty interesting possibility, too.
There's some latin in the lyrics, what does that mean?

Random online translator:
to be well , honest breath to sink your now to a boundary mark. But , very deos vade to reconsider! Name nowhere to see. Carbonis upon culo upon aeternitatem. It pleases to pay a creditor vedere!
but an italian translator says:
hello , pious soul labor tuus nunc at terminal. Sed , digits deos vade rear! First name nusquam visual. Carbo un ass un aeternitatem. Afterbirth Satan view!
so who knows! |

I think I understand the first three sentences. Loosely translated it means something like:
Hello, pious soul
Your work is now done or Your pain is now over
But, by the gods, go away
I need to work on the last three sentences but bear with me as I haven't practised Latin in 10 years! |

John Smith is the most common name in the UK, I think. So I just took it as an ode to the man on the street, rather than anyone specific. |
