So I sat for my FCE last December and finally got my results this weekend!! I was so happy to see I had got an A!
I guess that means I can read, speak, understand and write in English... I didn't know that until then :P
Now I want to prepare and sit for the Certificate in Advanced English, so that I can then move on to the Proficiency Exam...
Has any of you taken any of the Cambridge University exams? Is it worth it to take the CAE first or should I prepare and take the Proficiency exam right away? |

I've taken FCE and CAE. I think you can skip CAE, but you really have to know English extremely well to pass Proficiency. I wouldn't recommend taking Prof right after FCE, to be honest.
Edit: And congrats!! What am I thinking, really... |

I know, and I was thinking of starting one of those preparation courses... That's why I need to decide whether I'll take the CAE or the Proficiency Exam... |

Now that I reread what I posted, it does sound like if I was showing off!! Sorry!! *blushes*
I just wanted to share the excitement! My family congratulated me but they won't pay much attention as they barely know what I'm talking about or what the ESOL exams are... And the same goes for my friends... |

Congratulations Lu! :o)
I took the FCE in 2004... and stopped studying English right there. In fact, I didn't even study for the FCE xD.
I think those exams are too expensive, and I'm afraid of failing... (I got an A on FCE but anyway).
If I were you, I'd take a course to prepare for Proficiency, but maybe study for two years (usually courses are a year long), just to be sure you know what you need to know. If you skip the CAE, you'll save some money and stress xD.
Maybe you could ask Aki, she took the Proficiency Exam last year and passed it! :o) |

Yes, that's exactly why I don't want to sit for the CAE...
I didn't know Aki had taken the Proficiency Exam! I'll ask her in the Argentinian forum... |

Cool!! Well done! I think all you boardies whose first language isn't English are just brilliant, I am so ashamed of the fact I can't really speak any other language. |

Monica, I may be asking you for some phrases in Spanish soon. My daughter (age 6) has decided she wants to know some more Spanish, but she wants to learn it from "a real Spanish person from Spain who speaks Spanish first and English second." Her exact words. Even though I know several people of Mexican heritage who speak Spanish, that is not good enough for her.
I have no idea what she'll want to know. She had me ask Abs how to say, "pee-pee" and "poo-poo" in French. |

OK, no problem Kayte! She's in the perfect age to learn a new language, and Spanish will be very helpful for her ;) And I'm a real Spanish from Spain *lol* But I'm curious, why does she prefer a Spanish rather than a Mexican? Hehehe.
By the way, in Spanish pee-pee is pipí (or pis) and poo-poo is caca XD

Ah, the same as in French! Thank you. I'm sure I'll be asking you some other things soon. She'll be so excited to know that I have found a real Spanish person from Spain. I have no idea why she made that request. She's one of those kids that you just never know what she's going to say or do next. |
