We are expected to have heavy snow tonight. My daughter came home from school and told me that her school secretary told her to sleep with a spoon under her pillow to ensure a "snow day" tomorrow.
I've never heard of this. When did this start? I found an article on it. Apparently you are supposed to wear your pajamas inside out, too.
Snow Day Ritual
Anyone else know of this or am I just out of the loop? Okay, I'm sure I'm out of the loop, skip that part. But seriously, anyone else know of this? |

Never heard of that. hmmm, I wish I would've known about that when I was in school! Course it takes quite a bit of snow here to get a snow day. |

Ahhh...the snow day! :) My brother and I used to do the "snow dance" when we were little in order to wish for a snow day off from school. It was basically dancing around in a circle and making noises like Native Americans, hehehe. |

We get lots of snow here, too, but I've never heard of this ritual. Would have come in handy when I was younger. Now I don't get a snow day because I can still work from home! |

I find it really funny you get a day off if it snows a little bit. It can be -30c here plus a lot of snow and we still have to go to work/school/uni/whatever. Not fair! |

How do people get around safely? Even when they plow the streets and put salt down, sometimes I'm sliding through stop signs to get my daughter to school. Does everyone use public transportation or what? |

Well, it's not safe but we have to deal with that! And of course, a lot of people use public transportation then.
But, you know, there's no other way- when a winter is really cold, we would have not to work at all! |

Well, it's tough to walk twenty miles to work every day. ;-)
And we rarely got snow days in Cincinnati. It was more about the buses safety, liability and all that I suppose, than the people having to drive wherever in the snow. And then the introduced the two hour delay which pretty much eliminated all chances of a whole snow day.
And no, other than praying, we had no ritual for snow days ;) |

I used to drive an hour and 20 minutes every day to get to work. Now it will only be about 25 minutes max. I'm so happy about this. |

lol. I'm so sick of the snow I'm done with it for the year. Too bad we're only halfway through the season. :P We'd seriously have to get over a foot of snow to have a snow day. I only remember 3 or 4 snow days growing up...oh and one in college. |

That, and everyone drives 4-wheel drives here. Except me of course. :) Most everyone has a good pair of snow tires or at least all season tires here. |
