I know you tried it and I was shocked to find out that there is a curling club here in Austin. I'm gonna try and go ASAP.

I mock it but it intrigues me. A sport that involves a broom must be mocked a little bit, don't you think? But I know Nikki really enjoyed it the time she tried it. |

I used to live with a Canadian, who took me along to our local curling club for a shot. It's great fun. I swear the broom did nothing. Certianly not in my hands.
To be honest, I liked it as it was another in a long line of "acceptable drinking sports", e.g. snooker, darts, curling, ten pin bowling etc. Where you can have a beer while you play. And with curling - you can chill your beer during shots!!! |

Boring curling trivia alert - the best stones are believed to be made of granite from Ailsa Craig, a big rock of an island off the Ayrshire Coast of Scotland. Although I don't think they produce anymore, as it's one big bird poo covered wildlife reserve full of gannets and guillemots.
Feel free to tell people that. I dare you. |

I'll bring it up when I go to their practice. I already emailed the lady about it.
It is a good "you can drink while you do it" sport. But the fact that it's in the Olympics and involves a broom really just makes me giggle.
I want that broom in my grubby little hands so bad. |

They should find a way of incorporating a shovel pan into another olympic sport. Like flippers for the swimmers. Just to complete that broom & pan set. Like ying & yang. |

I'm sure they're both very nice girls with Master's degrees. Probably good at curling, too. |

YES! Curling rocks!!! You're going to have so much fun Anne! :O) Make sure you get a big group together. I think you have to have at least 4 people per team. One to "deliver the stone", two people to sweep with the broomy things, and one person at the end...*ahem* the "skip"...to yell at the broomy people, lol! That's my favorite position. I loved yelling "BROOM HARDER!!!!!!!!!!" or "DON'T BROOM YOU IDIOTS! IT'S COMIN' IN FAST!!" hahaha. |
