I asked the same question a while back and SamuraiSandy recommended a HP Photosmart, which I did end up purchasing. Lots of great features, good zoom, in-camera red-eye removal at a pretty decent price. The only thing I wish it had was 30 fps video--it's 24, I think. |

Thanks . Does it allow you to change the exposure or is that auto? |

Don't know how much you wanted to spend but if you can stretch to 356 quid you could have one of these.
Because it's an SLR you will have complete control over how your images look and it is a fantastic price for this camera. I have one and it really is a great entry-level SLR. |

Thanks for the model Elfy , was in the shop yesterday and totally confused with giznos and prices. I rekon its worth spending on if its good as you only buy once. Cheers |

i have a Canon Digital SLR 40D (the 400D is an excellent starter and lots cheaper) or we have a Panasonic FX50 (point and shoot) which is great for when you don't want bulk and Leica make the lens! |

Yes, after careful thought on the subject and considering all available evidence, I believe anyone can recommend a camera. |

Ok :-) I know there has to be a compromise somewhere.....all singing and dancing may not give the best quality pics...... but around £300 - what I want is a good quality picture ( some look grey tinny and unflattering ) and have a vdeo facility as well .
( I remember I hated my dad taking photos because his camera brought out every spot on my face even before one had started!)
Dont care about auto but an anti vampire facility a must! |
